Awesome Ship / Awesome Time

Sail Date: March 2012
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Flew into Fort Lauderdale on the Thursday to make sure there were no issues.

Embarkation was very smooth until the computers broke down. It then took us 1.5hrs to embark.

First impressions - WOW, just awesome.

We had no issues with dining or food. Actually we thought the food was fantastic. We didn't eat at any of the speciality restaurants other than Johnny Rockets and it was great. I was a bit worried because some people on this forum had rated the food low, but we had no issues.

The ship is kept spotless with great care taken to keep all public areas clean at all times.

We didn't use the Spa or Fitness area and didn't get into the pools. We also avoided the spas (sorry Jacuzzi's) as it was Spring Break on the ship the week we were there and I reckon the parties were being held in the spas most of the time. We did manage a very quiet dip one day in port when no-one was around.

The shows were all fantastic and I am glad we booked More them all on-line before going.

Our balcony room was awesome, with plenty of room, comfy bed and a great cabin attendant. It was also in a perfect location. It would be nice though to be given the option as to whether or not you want the minibar. My husband is diabetic and we needed the room for his medication and had to try and make room to fit it in. (Only a little gripe).

The only issue we had is the organisation of the shore tours. As we haven't travelled to the Caribbean before we booked shore tours in each port. There are no announcements on the tours and when you get down to the dock, you look around for someone and generally there "might" be a ship person around and they just tell you to hang around. If you are not keeping an eye out though you will definitely miss your tour as I'm sure quite a few people did. On other cruises we have been on, the tours groups are organised on the ship and you all disembark together. If not done this way, they at least let the people going on tours get off first so they don't miss their tours. I'm sure quite a few people missed their tours in St Thomas as their were at least 1000 people trying to find their tours and no-one organising anything. Royal Caribbean really need to fix this.

In saying all of that, the tours themselves were really good and we thoroughly enjoyed them.

Disembarkation was relatively easy except if you have a few bags and organise a porter, there is not enough room to weave in and out of the baggage area to get out. Also, a note to the customs guys, you need to have more non-US citizen lines as we did have to wait awhile as there were only 2 open and quite a long line.

All in all we had a fantastic time and will be definitely recommending the ship to friends at home and hope to come back soon. Less
