My husband and I are in our 40s and this was our 4th cruise, 2nd with Celebrity, as with every cruise we've been on - it was fantastic. We were definately in the minority as far as age - most folks were retired, very few children on board - we expected this with the longer cruise. We travelled with my brother and sister-in-law.
Hotel - We drove down from Ontario the day before the cruise and stayed overnight at the Country Inn and Suites by the Newark Airport - directly across from an outlet mall - which was a great place to stretch our legs after 7 hours of driving. Great hotel, buffet breakfast next morning was included - hopped in the car and were at the port within 20 minutes.
Embarkation - we arrived at the port around 11am, and although there was a bit of confusion as to where to unload your baggage, it did not take long to hand the bags to the porters and park the car. The check in process was quick and easy, obtained our sea pass cards - photo taken right at the check in counter, out to the bus and on to the ship by 1130.
Stateroom - we had an obstructed (2D) balcony - room 6209. It is located on the hump and so the balcony was about twice the size of a regular veranda room. Only obstruction was a white arm which held up the adjacent lifeboat - and a small portion of the lifeboat was visible when sitting on the balcony. Great space in the cabin and bathroom - we had no issues with the amount of storage - found a place for everything. Stateroom attendants were fantastic - had the fridge emptied out - we brought a case of soda onboard with us which we kept in the fridge(handed to the porter with the luggage tag on it - made it to the cabin no problem).
Dining - we ate in the MDR each evening - our wait staff was terrific - especially our asst waiter, Alen - nice young guy from Croatia - we had a lot of laughs with him each night. Food was good to fantastic each night. Breakfast and lunch in the oceanview cafe (occasional burger from the mast grill) - lots of selection - all very good. We went to Qsine our last night for dinner - lots of fun and the food was fantastic with interesting presentation.
Activities - we found the ship a little on the quiet side - especially after 10pm. Went to some interesting lectures on the sea days, played Xbox bowling and ping pong a few times, enjoyed the sun by the pool, and got caught up on a few movies on the TV in the stateroom. Enjoyed the cruise critic get together in the SkyLounge and subsequent cabin crawl with poker run and the slot pull.
Entertainment - enjoyed the Celebrity singers (especially the Riptides acapella group) and the dancers, the ventriloquist, female comedian and female singer impersonator were all very good. The male singer was a good singer and very popular with the crowd on board - however we found him a bit over the top (may have been a generation gap). The only really bad show we saw was the 'magician/comedian' - he didn't seem to be either.
Disembarkation - we chose to walk off with our bags to get an early start on our drive home - disembarkation time was 740 - we were off the ship, thru customs and in our car by 8am.
Summary - great cruise, we weren't sure if 12 days (6 sea days) would be too much - it was not...we would have stayed on for another 12. Fantastic service all around, all the staff always had a friendly smile and hello - who could ask for anything more!
