I've picked up SOOOO many tips here from so many people who took the time to write about their experiences, I wanted to try to give back a little by sharing our trip in the hopes to also help others with their travel decisions.

We wanted to take the Hawaii cruise because we've never been to Hawaii and any time you ask someone which island is "the best" they all have different answers. So we have come to the conclusion that everyone will like a different place, and since we are unfamiliar with the islands, we wanted to experience as much of each of them as we could with the intention of selecting OUR favorite spot and to return there again in the future for a land vacation. We will travel with 2 adults and 2 young kids (7-10). Some excursions we will do alone while others will be family orientated (ahhhh the benefits of an onboard babysitter)!! Overall we TOTALLY accomplished our goal, and thoroughly enjoyed our trip. I DO get sea sick, but Bonine was my hero! You WILL get sea sick on this boat, it can be rough--but I was totally fine while taking Bonine (I've tried the patch--just made me sick) not an ounce of sickness and it just made me feel a bit relaxed (not overly sleepy).

ARRIVAL: Arrive in Oahu on Thursday and enjoy 2 nights there prior to boarding the ship. We rented a car at the airport and stayed at the Aston Waikiki Beach and enjoyed a partial ocean view room (we were on floor 24--request a higher floor for the best view). The view was fantastic and we were able to see Diamond Head as well as the beach/ocean. They offered the mini-cooler upon arrival as well as coloring books for the kids (which worked well for the flight home). The beach was across the street and there were places to eat and rent beach toys within walking distance. The hotel was decent--no 5 star resort by any means, but on a budget it worked perfectly and we would stay again (in fact we did, after the cruise). We took a taxi from the hotel to the pier, that was around $30.

Great location. Nice views at most ports. Small--but that is typical.
