Married on the Noordam!!

Sail Date: March 2012
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

First the wedding review:
I picked this cruise based on the wedding packages offered and the itinerary sounded amazing! The company that works with HAL, Royal Ocean Events, is great! Tonia helped me plan the details, answered all my questions and was quick to respond when i needed anything. The wedding was perfect, exactly what we were hoping for! We were married on the ship in the captains corner on embarkation day with 7 non-sailing guests attending. Keith and Barbara were the coordinators/officiant and there were very professional and kept us informed and on schedule. I had my hair and makeup done onboard in the spa and it was perfect! You will for sure get the red carpet treatment when getting married on the boat! We had the ships photographer for about an hour and she did an amazing job, so many great pics to choose from, and reasonable when it came down to purchasing the package we wanted. Overall, couldnt have asked for more for our wedding day we were both very impressed More and extremely satisfied!

The Honeymoon/Cruise:
The Noordam is a really nice boat, very clean, there is always guys cleaning the nooks and crannys around the boat. Our balcony stateroom seemed a tad smaller than our balcony room on CCL, but the bathroom was bigger, or at least seemed bigger, with the bathtub!! The pool chairs could be replaced, the backs always popped up when you would sit and was kind of annoying but that didnt stop us from going to the pool every day!
Drinks were verrry good!! and you cannot beat the drink specials. I guess the older crowd on this boat is not the partying type so it takes a happy hour special to sell booze, but we took full advantage of that. the bar/waitstaff was hit and miss with personality, not as fun and outgoing as on other cruises we have been on.
Food was really good, we went to the Pinnacle Grill on the wedding night and had filet mignon and prawns, very yummy! It was a looong dinner but it was worth the wait for the special occasion. Went to Canaletto one night, also very good, best balsamic vinegar i have had yum yum, service was friendly and very quick. Went to dining room twice, we had open seating, it was good too, if you go a little later the place is pretty much cleared out, so no wait!
We do like to get dressed up for dinner but hubby didnt like the "coat" rule on formal nights so we avoided it then. We could have eaten at the buffet every night as it was verry good as well! Good pasta/pizza station for dinner, and we had pretty much all the other meals in the lido we were satisfied as well.
Overall, it was a very nice cruise, really great ports, our first HA cruise. I heard this is an older aged group cruise line and they arent kidding!! We were possibly the youngest people there. If you are looking to relax and spend time together than this is the cruise for you!we would for sure take another HA cruise as it was a very nice experience and we had a wedding and honeymoon that couldnt have been better!! Port and Shore Excursions

We had the most fun here! Booked a surfing lesson with Boosys surf school, and caught a ton of waves for a beginner!! Awesome experience! Then we went to Rockley beach and had some local beers, jrk chicken sandwiches and just chilled. Went back to downtown for some shopping but such a big town, didnt want to get lost! The people in Barbados were lots of fun as well!

River Tubing

(4)
Went tubing on the Layou River. Very fun!! The river is swift enough you dont have to paddle and there was a couple rough rapids! One of the last rapids alot of people came out of their tubes!! No one was hurt and there were guides stationed all down the river helping through the tough spots so we felt safe. After we got to go grab a rum puch at a cool hotel in the jungle. When the tour ended we did some shopping in Rosseau, loved the vibe in this little town! One of our faves!

Rained!!! We were looking foward to a beach day, but started off with clouds and thinking it would clear up but just got worse!! monsoon rains!! had to go back early and jump in the hot tub on the ship! This would be quite a cool place weather cooperating, the Captain Morgan on the Rocks bar was cute! We will have to visit again some day.

I did alot of research before the trip to find fun things to do, and Martinique was the ONE place i couldnt find much to do! The ship had maybe 7 excursions in this port but they seemed overpriced and figured they would be crowded!! Tour companys on Trip advisor were in french and i dont speak french at all. so we came here without a plan and walked around the town. Everything was closed as I expected based on other reviews, as we were in port on Sunday, but it was kind of cool to hear them in church singing in french and the church bells ringing every hour made the place pretty charming. Walked up a huge hill to some kind of memorial that overlooked the bay where the boat was and it was a nice view! Kind of a boring day for us though.

We booked a private tour with Serenity tours for the day. Went to Pigeon Island, tey have a TON of tours you can do. Rum punch and a cooler of beer and fresh squeezed juice was included as well. So much to see in St. Lucia, and not enough time!! I wanted to explore more and visit the Pitons and volcano, but our boat cruised down to Soufriere Bay and parked for an hour or two and had a island BBQ buffet, so I did get to see them and take some pics. Very pretty place!

Very fun day here!! Our first port after 2 sea days, so was nice to see land. We knew we wanted to go to Maho beach, and it was very quick and easy to grab a cab there. Perfect weather, and gorgeous water/beaches. We went to Mullet Bay, which is maybe a 5 min cab ride from Maho, for a quieter experience to finish the afternoon. One of our favorite ports on the cruise!

Busy Busy day in St Thomas!! Had quite a few boats in port this day, including the Oasis of the Seas, so glad I checked who was going to be in port ahead of time!! Chartered a sailboat with fantasy daysails and we did not regret it!! There were only 4 others on the boat, they do not take more than 6 people out, and we got open bar, 2 snorkling trips around little St. James, lunch and a really cool experience for us since we had never been on a sailboat. We cut it a liiiitle close on the way back as our cab was late picking us up and its quite a long drive to Redhook from Crown Bay, but we made it back in time!!
