Background Info: Myself, wife, teenager daughter and mother in law went on our first ever cruise on the Eclypse. We really just wanted to relax, see a few shows and were looking forward to enjoying the whole experience.
Travel: We flew Westjet from Halifax through Toronto into Miami. Uneventful flights and arrived in Miami safe & sound on the Friday afternoon before departure. Spent the night at Holiday Inn Port of Miami. Hotel was average, great location across from shopping and restaurants and woke up Sat am looking out the window at our ship! Hotel was very nice in lobby, rooms were worn but clean and obviously not updated yet. Staff was very nice and would stay there again.
Embarkation. Took a quik cab to the cruise port about 11am and was through security and check in in about 10 mins. Had about a 30min wait to board. Boarded about 1145am and went right to Oceanview for lunch. Was busy but no problem finding a place. Had a look around the ship for about an hour before we were allowed in our cabins. What can I say but "WOW" What a beautiful lady she is. Pictures don't do her justice! You would think you were in a grand hotel!
Rooms: We connecting rooms (1128 & 1130) on deck 10 C3. We loved our rooms, they were more spacious than we were expecting. The bed was comfortable, had a LCD TV with an interactive set up to watch On Demand Movies, check our ships location, check your account, etc. We had flowers and the welcoming bottle of sparkling wine. A rose appeared in the bathroom the next day, we had a towel animal one night. The beds were always turned down with chocolate on the pillow, we felt spoiled to say the least. Our room attendant and his assistant were absolutely perfect! They could not do enough for us and never made us feel like we were a nuisance. I have to say I wasn't a fan of prepaid gratuities and in the end we left extra, so I guess that says it all! I must say they work long days yet always have a smile and a good morning, that went for all the attendants we came across.
Service: Rooms attendants excellent obviously! :) Our waiter and assistant went above and beyond as well. We are buffet people because we are not used to "fancy" dining, but after trying it the second night we never missed another supper. Our servers made it so much fun and weer so nice and caring that it was like dining with friends!
Almost all the staff were very friendly and almost everyone would speak and smile. The cruise director Mike was a riot! The only negative I can say was that a fair amount of the bartenders were cold and tended to ignore you at the bar, not all (the sunset bar was the best) and the bat staff that come around the shows and such were fine.
Dining: We only did the buffet for lunches and breakfast and it was good to very good. Moonlight rest. was excellent and room service was fair (quick but only so so food)
Entertainment: We really enjoyed most of the shows, the Cirque like show was great, Karen Grainger was excellent, loved the comedian who's name I forget, really liked the crew talent show.
Activities: I thought there was a good mix of activities for young and old. We really like the Hot Glass Show, the Marriage show was hilarious! We did a couple of Bingo's... enough said.
Disembarkation: We used the express option. We met in front of the theatre on Deck 5 at 6:30am. We were off the ship, through customs, in a cab and at MIA by 7:10am! Express it is!
Summary: We enjoyed the Eclypse immensely!! We loved her looks, her entertainment, her food, her rooms and her crew! We will be back for sure, probably a western caribbean next time (maybe a little longer than 7 nights!)
