This was my first Carnival cruise and while I enjoyed the experience it was probably my least favorite of the six other cruises I've taken in the past nine years.
The staff was friendly and the ship was clean. Beyond that, Carnival didn't live up to the expectations of "fun" that I had heard so much about. The layout of the Liberty was far more confusing than the previous ships I've cruised on. The promenade deck did not encompass the ship, which for those that like to walk was a problem. They offer a smaller walking track on the sports deck, but it doesn't have the same feel as walking on the promenade deck.
The entertainment was so-so. The main shows were good however there were only two that involved the entire cast. One night there was no entertainment, or shall I say, paid entertainment...only a "game show". The comedians that I saw were very raunchy and sexual. As he said, "if you don't like his show, complain and then go to an earlier show". Really? The band near the casino was okay, the area was not big enough to dance in and people were always trying to get by. Strange location to have dance lessons, etc., but they were making the most of the space on the ship.
Port of call were okay. Half Moon Cay is a gorgeous beach and an ideal way to start of the trip if you like to have fun in the sun! Lunch on the island was nice, nothing fancy or overly delicious but it was better than going back to the ship to eat (since you had to tender to and from). Carnival Corp., has put a lot of money into this island in recent years and it shows. Very relaxing day at the beach! St. Thomas is crazy...but what do you expect from one of the most popular cruise ship stops! The beaches were gorgeous and if you like to shop there was a plethora of places to do so! San Juan was gorgeous in a completely different way...not a beach destination. History and uniqueness sums up our visit to San Juan. If you like history and were tired of the beach this was a perfect day! Grand Turk. Not a place I would go back to. Carnival Corp., has once again put a ton of money into making this a "destination". It's not. The people on the island enjoy tourism and thankfully they have some, but it's not a great place to do anything except be a beach bum (on the beach that carnival has designed).
Overall this was a so-so cruise. If you are on vacation and don't enjoy your time, it's your own fault. However, cruising with Carnival was not up to the same standards as other lines I've cruised with in the past.
