Not for Us

Sail Date: October 2011
Destination: Mexican Riviera
Embarkation: Los Angeles

If you are the party goer type person, or bringing a family with children, then this cruise will probably fit you.
Ship was HUGE! Over 3000 passengers which meant any activity was filled to capacity quickly, and lines for everything were long, although the crew did a good job of keeping them moving in the Lido.
We noticed several activities for children while on board which was a good thing. Overall value for a family is tops...but we are older and nearing retirement.
When we boarded, we got lost immedietly..and could not find anyone to guide us in the correct direction to our Aft Balcony...

The pools were always packed, especially the mid-ship pool/sauna. The ship was so big I ran into a collegue at the airport on the trip home who was on the same cruise...never once saw her onboard ship...Did not like the layout of the ship either...we usually enjoy walking around the Promanade deck, but on the Splendor, the Promanade deck is "split", meaning you have to go back More inside, then outside again.

FOOD:
The Lido food was not that great...only satifactory. The dining room food was TOPS...To die for!..more than made up for the Lido. Room Service food was also very tasty, and quick!

FIRE DRILL:The Fire Drill was jam packed with passengers...luckily we were not required to wear our life vests. After the fire drill and Life Vest demo...the crew proceeded to go on and on with marketing nonsense over the PA with 4000 men/women/children cram packed, standing outside on the lifeboat decks waiting to be released...

PORTS:
On this particular cruise, Carnival cancelled Mazatlan due to Drug Cartel issues and extend our Cabo San Lucas stay for 2 days.., then a hurricane had us cancel Puerto Vallarta..so the Capt elected to leave Cabo and procede to La Paz which was a nice alternate.

ROOM SERVICE:
Only one word...Excellant!...no problems here

We did enjoy the interactive TV in our room..Several items could be ordered through room service, also enjoyed being able to view our bill at anytime on the inveractive TV and were even able to check out of our staterooms using this feature.
On our departure, we were advised to stay in our rooms until our numbers were called, then proceed through customs back in LA. This too was a nice feature. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Splendor Balcony Upper

We had Aft Balcony...typical layout for Cabin...Bathrobe's in room were fantastic...best I've seen on any cruise ship. Good privacy from aft balcony. The only other passengers who could see you were other balcony passengers as the Lido deck hung in such a way that no one on the Lido deck could look down on you.
