A cruise with Hurtigruten is really a glorified ferry. The public areas a nice, clean and comfortable although the main bar on Deck 4 was closed for the whole trip.
The cabin was nice and plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space meant we could fully unpack. However there was nowhere to stash the suitcases. The bathrooms also had a cupboard for the storage of toiletries but the showere itself was very small and only had a curtain. All in all it was pleasant.
The set menu in the restaurant is not really a good idea. There should be two choices. For those who do not like fish they will do a meat dish otherwise you eat what you are given. The food is adequate and well presented but by no means gourmet. The waiting staff are delightful and very helpful.
The prices for wine was attrocious - the equivalent of £40 plus, beers were the equivalent of £8 and the snacks in the 24 hour cafe also very high [£9 for a bowl of soup!] They do a hot drink deal for the equivalent of £25 - you buy the insulated mug and can refill it at any time free of charge, still not cheap but over a few days you get your money's worth and can take the mug home.
The staff on board were very nice in the main although the barman on the top deck is a bit surly.
We had a very pleasant, quiet time, in spite of someone's loud mobile telephone calls but would not sail with Hurtigruten again.
