We cruised the Sun with our 26 y.o. Son and 13 y.o. daughter and had a fabulous time. No, there is no wave rider, merry-go-round or ice skating rink but the ship is so comfortable and the crew is so pleasant and accommodating that we got what we want out of a cruise, which is an escape from the stress of our jobs and time to enjoy ourselves as a family.
Our daughter was a little sad when she discovered that there were only eight teens aboard and only six who spoke English, but she went to the teen club and met some girls and they had a blast together. (The previous week there had been over 100 teens so this was just the luck of the draw.) They enjoyed eating together in the sports bar, meeting at the pool and going to the shows.
This was our first cruise in a suite and that was wonderful. The concierge made sure that we were happy with our accommodations, dining experiences and access to the shows. He also made embarkation and debarkation a breeze. Our cabin steward was the best we have had.
One of the things I loved about this ship was that we never had to hunt for a seat in the buffet or the sports bar or wait for seating in the various dining venues. We loved Moderno- the Brazilian steakhouse and enjoyed Le Bistro one evening. The dining in the main dining rooms was ok. The service was good and I like that the waiter also deals with cocktail/wine orders. I have been on another line that has a drinks waiter and the important syllable about that was "WAIT".
The shows in the Stardust Lounge were so-so but we loved the Latin band in the Observation Lounge.
I would definitely book the Sun again and I would definitely book our cabin again, which was a forward penthouse with a fantastic bathroom and even better view. Take your binoculars!
