A perfect combination of ship and staff.

Sail Date: February 2012
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

We had a suite (cabin 1617) and loved it. Our butler, Edwin and his able assistants Rafael and Eduardo anticipated and responded to our every need. We hosted two pre-dinner cocktail parties and simply gave Edwin the expected number of attendees. Ten minutes before each party Edwin would arrive with platters of cheeses, fruits, vegetables and shrimp. Eduardo would arrive an hour or so earlier and put the wines that required chilling and ice. Everything from cork screws to proper glasses for red or white wine were always on hand. This service was as good as it gets! Very professional and very organized.

We dined most nights in the MDR. Our table was #241, right next to the Captain's table. There were eight of us in our party and our waiter, Samuel and his assistant, Adil were outstanding. Asking permission to call us by our first names was a nice touch and added to our dining experience. The sommelier, Adrian certainly knew his wines and his suggestions complemented More our entree selections. The maitre d', Vladimir carefully oversaw the entire dining process. Our food was always timely delivered and served at the correct temperatures. We enjoyed all the meals. No one at our table thought they were served a less than good to excellent meal. Food commenting is so personally subjective that I can only comment on how we generally felt about it. I can state unequivocally though that we would definitely sail again on the Eclipse because we liked the food. One further comment about the dining experience. The ship has a brunch a little past mid-week. It is not to be missed! I remember when this kind of presentation used to be called the "midnight buffet". It's much better to do this between 10:00am and 1:00pm.

The shows were good to excellent. The performers in the atrium and poolside had some amazing vocalists. The acappella group is not to be missed. We would get lounges in the shaded areas by 9:00am each day. We never had a problem finding eight lounge chairs together. Sea days would find us reading our books or playing cards and relaxing. We do not use pools or hot tubs as a matter of personal choice.

Forgot to add that embarkation and disembarkation were extremely smooth.

One comment about senior staff on this ship. They were the most personable and approachable crew we have ever sailed with. We had lattes on Deck Five and the captain sat next to us. He initiated conversation with us. He was engaging and informative. (There are too many vowels in his last name for me to attempt to spell.). Other senior officers throughout the cruise were highly visible. They often made eye contact and seemed pleased if you spoke with them. Having "Elite" status gave us access to the Captain's Club for pre-dinner cocktails when we weren't hosting private parties. The Captain's Club host, Chandra was a most cordial individual.

Internet services were very good with the Internet center being staffed by Apple. WiFi services were excellent while at sea.

All Niall we came away very impressed with this cruise experience Less

Cabin 1617 had a slight urine odor.

Not sure if this is Old San Juan category. Also been here may times. Not impressive.
