We just returned from the Mexican Riviera and had a nice cruise experience. However there are some things to keep in mind if you choose this cruise.
First Mexico is not safe. Matzalan was removed as a stop and the crew did not encourage you to go inland alone. That kept you among the hawkers and the cheap souvenir stores.
Secondly, the excursion folks were probably the least knowledgeable of all the cruises we have been on. Virtually no help to make decisions on how you were going to spend time in the ports. The shopping lady was all jewelry. If you weren't in the market to buy diamonds she was no help.
Thirdly, although the food was outstanding in our view, the service at dinner was rushed in anytime dining and they had poor accommodations for dining for two. You were forced to sit at a small table very close to others who can overhear your conversation and even respond to it. RCI and Celebrity have individual tables for two. Princess has to correct that issue.
On the positive side, Sabbatini's their specialty Italian rest. served us one of the best meals we have ever eaten. The international cafe and the coffee card they offer for purchase were great bargains and great food. The pizza nearby was to die for. The wine bar was excellent and covered by a very friendly and knowledgeable person and the sommeliers were knowledgeable and very personable as well. The food in the dining rooms were great. If we could have enjoyed our dinner without eating it with others it would have been nearly a perfect ship experience. They gave us an individual table for breakfast and lunch but were relegated to the bench and chair seating in rows for dinner.
A week of relaxation on the ship was great. The spa was nice but expensive. We used it four times though. Look at this cruise as a week away without worries, usually great service and not for the ports. Pictures at Cabo was the only highlight.
