Grand on The Grand

Sail Date: February 2012
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We arrived in FLL the day before the cruise and stayed at the Diplomat-Weston. Booked on Hotwire for $104/night. What a deal and what a hotel!

Saturday arrived at the port, checked in and arrived at our cabin about 45 min later. Very easy, quick process. We carried on 4 bottles of wine with no issues.

Our cabin is very nice, mini-suite on the Dolphin deck. Romeo is our steward and did an excellent job through out our cruise. By day 2 he was addressing us by out first names. While not necessary, a nice touch in that he took the time. We've had a mini-suite before, so knew the layout and that the balcony was "exposed". Not an issue for us. We enjoyed coffee in the am and wine in the pm on our balcony. Had an issue with opening our safe one day, called for assistance and help arrived within 15 minutes.

Overall condition of the ship was great. Maybe there were signs of age, but either didn't notice, or didn't care as I was having too great of a time.

The More food was great. Had a burger at Trident Grill first day, which was good. Ordered room service for early breakfast most days, it was on time and exactly as ordered. Horizon Court: It was good, wide variety. MDR: we had Anytime dining. After a 45 min wait the first night, we called for reservations each moring after when using MDR. Better option. Food was good, service was very nice. Specialty dining: We ate at Sabatini's one night, excellent choice. Food was terrific and the service was above and beyond. Also ate at Crown Grill. Again, food and service were superb. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Sabatini's and Crown Grill. Shared a pizza at Alfredo's. Nice experience. pizza was VERY good and the service very good. We really enjoyed the International Cafe. Sandwiches and soups were excellent, desserts too.

Ports we visited:
Puerto Rico: only there for a short time, but had the chance to walk around, had a couple of cocktails then dinner at Dragon Fly. Excellent dinner.

St Maarten: did a snorkel tour. Had a great time, crew was fun. Walked around and did some shopping.

St Thomas: this port is too small for all the ships in port this day. Did the aireal tram on our own, the view was just amazing. We then went downtown and didn't stay long. Way too crowded. I think if we visit St Thomas again, I will either go on a longer excursion, or stay on the ship.

Princess Cays: beautiful day, lots of sun, the water was clear and warm. Hung out enjoying the views, had a couple of drinks and enjoyed the bbq.

Lots to do each day on board. I had a message, which was amazing. No pressure to purchase products or other services. Enjoyed the lounges, especially One5. I visited the gym first 2 days. Not a ton of equipment, but ok. It was hot in the gym, making it hard to run on the treadmill. After a couple of days I opted to use walk on deck 7 for my exercise.

Overall, a wonderful vacation. While there may have been a few things to complain about, I honestly can't remember them as the positives far outweighed them. Less
