Loved the Thomson Dream

Sail Date: February 2012
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: Barbados

We loved our week on the Thomson Dream. We boarded in Barbados which is great for us as that's where we live! So no flights needed. Just pack a bag and walk on.

The Entertainment in the Broad Way Lounge was fantastic each night. Paula and her crew in the Destination Services took fantastic care of all on board and helped with all our tours in each port. They were always on hand in the port to make sure we got on the right tour and that we were looked after. The Midnight Buffet on the Friday night where the Chefs showcased their talent was fantastic and well worth staying up for! We actually had tea, went to sleep and set our alarms so that we woke up and went to the Buffet!

Had a fun tour "Rhumba on the Chiva" in Margarita Island, Venezuela. The latin music was blasting and we were dancing. My one disappointment was the when we stopped to shop for pearls. I bought a pendant and earings set for a real cheap price. Guess it was too good to be true. By the end of the day More the 'gold' colour of the settings was already turning black!

In Tobago we went on the Glass Bottom Buccoo Reef tour - which included being allowed off the boat to snorkel - right over a sting ray. Way cool!

The cruise ended in Barbados - which is home for us, so we just packed our bags and walked off. Because Thomson considered us Independents, we were allowed to keep our suitcase and just pull it off with us when we were ready to leave. Though who is ever ready to leave that lovely ship? Less

Cabin review: Thomson Dream 5004

We lucked out with our cabin 5004. Because it was the first in the row/deck it was shorted than normal, but twice as wide! We ended up with 2 portholes to look out of. Plus the area was quiet as not a lot of foot traffic.

Port and Shore Excursions

Barbados was the start and end of the cruise and is home for us. So on one hand it was nice to see our Port, but we really wish we could have stayed on board for longer.

We went on the River Tubing tour in Grenada. Had a lot of fun. It was their dry season, so the river wasn't as high as it could be. Would have been more fun if there was more water. Nothing the tour people could do about that. Just luck of the draw. Still we had a good time.

We went on the Snuba Adventure & Pigeon Island Tour. Had a really great time. We were given a full briefing on how to use the equipment - including practicing using the equipment in the shallow water of the shore. There was one guide per every 4 people. Our lady took really great care of her charges in the water. We got approximately 40 minutes in the water and then had time to explore Fort Rodney before it was time to get back on the bus and go back to the ship.

We did the Kayaking and Snorkel Adventure in St. Vincent. This was a great tour. Due to high seas, we couldn't go into the bat cave. This was a disappointment to us, but we fully appreciated that the tour guys had our safety as their first priority. People should note that this is an active tour as you will be kayaking in open sea. There is no guarantee that the sea will be calm. We couldn't understand why one couple signed up for it, as it was well documented by Thomson Dream folks that it was an active tour. Thankfully, the tour operators also had a small boat that was with the group at all times, and the couple were put on board the boat from the very start. That way they still were able to get to the beach where we went snorkeling.
