Dream met our expectations

Sail Date: February 2012
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Port Canaveral

We drove to port and parked in the parking garage. We had vip so we went straight on without long lines.
We were very pleased with our room. It was near the elevators so one night the Atrium was loud but generally by 11 all was quiet. It was large for 3 people. the couch folded down as a bed for our son. The beds were very comfortable. The bath was large, water hot. Shampoo and soap provided. Bring Conditioner. Plenty of storage for our suitcases, hanging clothes and drawers for us. We used our balcony a lot! We would watch people play chess on the giant chess board.

Th first day seemed very crowded but by the end of the trip I think folks found their rhythm and the flow was better. The audio music on the main lido deck area was too loud. Get a chair by 10 or you might be out of luck. But there are lounge chairs all over the ship. We never lounged there and preferred aft ship deck near the spa or the adults only area.

The Camp Carnival seemed to More entertain our 11 old son fairly well. He went there sea days mostly. Buy the end of the trip he preferred to go there than hang with his parents. He really enjoyed the 10-3am kids party.

The shows were great. The singers and dancers work had to put on a good show. The Fun Force break dancers were awesome. They gave the kids lessons and the opportunity to show off the dance moves.

Dining: We had the 6 pm seating top level in the MDR. It was crowded. First night was a bit slow on service but buy the next night things were a bit smoother. We did not bring fancy clothes. But my husband golf shirt and dark jeans did fine for "elegant night" Arrive on time or a bit early to dinner to have speedier service. Food was generally good.

Other Dining: The buffets were just fine. Timing is everything here to avoid long lines and find seating. I never had exceptional food. But it was generally very good. The Tandori was the best- and spicy. The Pizza bar was ok depending when you got the pizza. One evening there was a long line and only one man there making pizzas and taking orders. Maybe Carnival can take a lesson in quick pizza prep from Dominos! He even through a whole pizza away because one lady can't eat mushrooms. The guy next to me hollered that he'd take it but too late... Maybe a language barrier issue. The sushi bar was always pleasing. I think there needed to be a few more late night option for food besides pizza and ice-cream and the room service menu.

Staff: all courteous, friendly, helpful and smiling.

Excursions: We did an excursion in every port. All were enjoyable and never had trouble with them at all. We were busy and just wished we picked one of those ports to just have a beach day. Roatan or Belize would have been the best place for that. Never had a problem debarking during our port calls.

Debarkation: We were off the boat and in our car at 7:50 am. Carried our own luggage off. Travel light. you can do laundry which we did. about $7.

WE will cruise again, probably carnival but may opt for a smaller ship. Just depends on the kids activities offered. Less

7276- near elevators of Atrium. Atrium can be loud sometimes but is usually quiet by 11pm.

Port and Shore Excursions

Well it seems this port is still in the works. Not up to American polished standards. However we had no problem finding our tour operator. All went quickly and smoothly. Tender process was smooth for us. Elvis was our operator for the Mayan Cave tour. We drove through Belize City and he talked about Belize, the people and culture. He was very enthusiastic, sincere and genuine. It was a long ride to the Cave but he kept us entertained. Part of the road is unpaved and takes you though the juggle and back country. The entire staff at the cave was friendly, helpful and funny. The tour requires you to hike, climb crawl up to and through the cave. And of course a bit of zip-lining. This is for the adventurous. Lunch was provided and was tasty enough. Recommended.

Very nice experience on this tour. Our guide was nice, informative and easy to understand. We booked this because it was the shortest tour to see Mayan ruins. Beverages of soda water and beer offered after the tour!! Snack provided also. These guys were great and gave us enough of our own time to walk around the ruins. The port is cheesy with standard mexican stuff begin sold at way too high price even if you haggle. Get rid of the "wildlife reserve kiosk" there were to baby tigers there. not native to Mexico and were obviously drugged. Terrible.

EAsy to park and pay. not far to walk with luggage to processing area.

The port facility itself was a very nice. Very new. Not like the ports in mexico with folks trying to get you to by stuff. We met our tour but they seemed tone having trouble getting us on the right bus. This wasted time that we needed for our tour. Once on the way we got the tour of the island, most interesting as this is still very much a developing nation. We arrived to Gumbalimba Park. The park was nice. Still growing and developing. Our son loved the monkeys and birds and iguanas. The flora and fauna is very interesting too. Next stop was the TAbyana Beach club. WE were given entry only. had to pay for snorkel gear and food. have to tip the guy to get you a beach chair. Our only complaint is that we wasted time at port on the bus and spent too long at the park. We would have preferred more time at the beach for snorkeling. But the snorkeling was very good here. Be prepared to buy lunch.
