We have only cruised once before, to Alaska with HA, and this family experience was new for us and made for a wonderful vacation. The ship is beautiful and has something for everyone. Our family ranged in age from 6 to 70+.
Boarding was as expected...some lines but not much of a wait. Disembarking was less smooth as the process for going through customs/immigration led to some waiting in lines. The RC process was well organized.
Food in the dining room was rather good considering the thousands of meals that have to be prepared and served. One complaint was that meals were usually not warm enough by the time they arrived at the table, but the selection was very good and the portions ample.
Our waiter, Made, and his assistant, Madel, were OUTSTANDING! They took excellent care of the special requests for our six year old grandson and always went beyond the call of duty. And Made entertained all our grandsons with his puzzles and tricks.
Dinner in the Chops Grill was excellent once the A/C was turned up to remove the arctic chill from the room.
The venues for children are fabulous and we can't say enough about the wonderful care provided in the Explorer program. Teen activities were fun and there was a sense of security on board so there was never a worry about their safety. And their parents had plenty of fun as well.
The cruise director, Graham, was indefatigable.....where does he get that energy? His adult comedy show had us holding our sides with laughter.
Overall, we found the staff on Freedom to be friendly, courteous and helpful, no matter where we were. I would heartily recommend this cruise to families with children.
