Ship Facts: Carnival Destiny Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Carnival Destiny Deck Plans
Carnival Destiny Honest Review
Let me first start off by saying we are a family of 5, with three children below 13 years of age.

Embarkation: Was a breeze, on the ship by 11:30 within 20 minutes of arriving there. Make sure to have all of your paperwork ready though.

Ship Info: This is the worst part of the review. The ship is very old, with obvious signs/odors of age. Our room smelled and was like garbage. It was very old and there were obvious carpet tears in our interior cabin. Televisions were the old style. The rest of the ship was much of the same. An old, outdated ship. It desperately needs a refit. We arrived late back to Miami due to technical difficulties, kind of scary.

Service: Incredible just like all the rest of the cruises we have been on.

Crowds: The crowds were bad if you went to the wrong place at the wrong time. For example, breakfast at 9:00 on the Lido deck was a nightmare.

Food: All of the food was just average. If you want quality food, go to the dining room for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The pizza and the random stations aka New York Deli were amazing.

Children: My kids had a great time and hanged out in the club most of the days except for the days we did and excursion.

Activities: This ship had the same old activities as other short cruises (5 days or less). Boring and the outdoor theater had one good movie in 5 days, and of course we were doing an excursion while it was playing. We will be picking a six day next time for our children.

Excursion in Ocho Rios: In Ocho Rios, we did the Mystic Island Bobsled. The ride to the top was absolutely amazing. Best chairlift we have done. The bobsled ride was great too, but was only about 1 minute 30 seconds of thrill. Additional tickets are available for purchase after ride. This was our favorite excursion we have done in awhile.

Excursion in Grand Cayman: Due to financial reasons, we decided to shop in Grand Cayman. It is a wonderful island, but very expensive. Be prepared to bargain.

Summary: Besides the horrible condition of the ship and the lack of activities, this was a good vacation. I would suggest spending the extra bucks to take a ship with more to do. Trust me, you wont regret it. Our next cruise will be on Carnival Dream or Carnival Breeze. These are better ships with more things to do. The ports and the service was great. In all, this cruise is only worth it for the ports.
