We booked this cruise vacation a couple of months ago - the price was right for our family. We took our son (16) and daughter (11)on this vacation.
We had never been on a five day cruise before - and it was perfect. Five days was a great break from work and school - and allowed us to get home on Saturday so that we could relax before getting back to the grind.
Although the Millennium is due to go to dry dock to be Solsticized - we thought the ship was in very good condition. Sure there were some worn spots here and there - but the public areas were in really good condition. The same can be said for our cabins. We had a Concierge Class veranda stateroom - and the kids had an inside cabin across the hall. We thought that the Concierge Class was laid out well with good space. We've had larger staterooms - but this suited us nicely.
The food on board exceeded our expectations. We knew the Olympic Restaurant would be excellent (and it was!!!). We wound up in the main dining room for four nights and the food was very good. Lots of choices and almost everything we ate was very good. The service in the main dining room was fantastic. Our waiter and assistant waiter provided outstanding service and had great personalities. Needless to say the service in the Olympic was impressive.
I recommend that you eat in the Olympic at least once. If we didn't have the kids - we probably would have dined their at least 3 times.
The only area we saw for improvement was the entertainment. There was a band in the Rendezvous lounge that was terrible. They were from the Ukraine - and their singer butchered pop songs every night. However - we saw the same musicians without their female singer at brunch on Friday - playing jazz and swing - and they were terrific. If only they played this music every night - their dance floor would have been packed. There were entertainers in the Cova lounge that were good - but not great. A talented piano player that turned every song into something that sounded like Elton John. A guitar player who had a nice voice - but had zero personality. And - an A Cappella group - MetroPark - who were very good and very entertaining.
Lastly - Celebrity has a disembarkation that was fantastic! No messages over the speaker system every five minutes. Instead - directions to a meeting area - and then an announcement for groups to head to the gangway. We were off the ship with absolutely no lines.
We had a great time - and highly recommend Celebrity and the Millenium.
