Our flight left San Angelo, Tx. at 10 A.M. on Feb. 11. From there we flew to DFW and left there for San Juan at 1:30. We arrived in San Juan at 7:15 local time. It was dark by then and we were tired, so no sight seeing on that evening. Our taxi driver, Jorge delivered us to the Radisson in 15 minutes. I would recommend the Radisson, the room was lovely and everyone there was friendly and helpful. We had dinner there at the Ambassador Grill. The red snapper and grilled porkchop with SWEET plantains, which our waiter recommended were delicious. The porkchop was $13.00, red snapper was 16.95. Not unreasonable at all. We had a nice, quiet sleep and were ready for the next day.
It was 10 minutes to the pier and we arrived at 10:00. There was plenty of shade and a few people to visit with, even so early. Boarding started at 11:40 and we went straight to the Island grill for hamburgers, paella, pork ragout and salad. We had a DOD, which was Caribbean Tea. We were in our stateroom by 1:45 and our luggage was delivered at 2:15. The boarding process was one of the smoothest I have experienced. The muster drill was from 6 to 6:30, not a bad experience at all. We had early dining at 6:00. That first night we had prime rib, vidalia onion tart, spinach salad and tomato soup. We declined dessert, thinking we would go up top for frozen yogurt. As it turns out, the yogurt stop, Arctic Freeze, is CLOSED after 6 P.M. Sailaway was at 8:00 P.M. and it was the quietest one I have ever experienced. We visited a couple of night spots, but nothing much was happening, so we called it a day and retired fairly early.
Monday was a day at sea, so we had a leisurely breakfast in the Windjammer (Deck 11) with usual breakfast buffet fare. We watched the Sexy Man Contest and the World Championship Belly Flop Contest, what a hoot! We had the DOD, Bahama Mama, enjoyed the pool and hot tub, then got ready for our early dinner. BTW, the blowdryer on the ship was adequate, not quite like the industrial-strength I have at home, but it got the job done. We had beef, which was very similar to the prime rib. There were long lines for pictures, so we went to the show, Viva Las Vegas, which we thoroughly enjoyed. There was LOTS of talent on board the ship. We strolled around a bit and then turned in.
lovely room, quiet, tiny shower
