Marco Polo Cruise Review by hoepel: Amazone & West Indies

Amazone & West Indies
Our cruise (we are Dutch) with the Marco Polo was not too bad taking into account some negative reviews on this site.
The ship is old and that shows. During our trips there was a lot of repairing and painting going on, restricting the available space on the decks.
The itinerary is interesting but remember the Amazon is very wide so the panorama is rather boring and there are many seadays.
The crew is mainly eastern european. They are in general friendly and kind but not too service orientated.
Ours cruise started with the aftermath of a Noro virus and halfway there was a full power breakdown luckily on the Amazone and not on a rough open sea. The
failure was blamed on incoming rainwater and that is rather alarming.
The food was good, sometimes very good.
The showteam was excellent.
The atmosphere among the travellers was fine

Cabin review: 8358
Cabin 358, only one pothole and no direct view, situated right in the backNoisy, constantly crew members passing to the closed deck at the back, slamming the door also at night time.Regularly big bangs from the waves agains the hull, difficult to sleep
Port and Shore Excursions
Just took a taxi and visited a great part of the island, 20 euro per hour so cheaper than excursions even if you are only 2, great tour
We took an excursion but it is cheaper to take a taxi with 4 persons.
Walking the city of St. George is a good alternative
Only half a day available! Take a walk along the boulevard and see the city on your own. The bus to Monte (Bus 21) costs only 1,75 Euro.
Hop on/off tour to Cama de Lobos very nice
If you want to see the surrounding wetlands rente a boattrip just left of the boatlanding, price 700 Reaal for 5 hours!
In the city the opera and the church are the only things worth visiting, easy on foot
