Ship Facts: Jewel of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Jewel of the Seas Deck Plans
Great Five Day Cruise
From the time we dropped off our bags at the terminal to the minute we put our baggage back in our car, we had a great trip that was one of the easiest trips to take, on a great ship with outstanding service and an overall great vacation.

Port of Tampa: We found we could drop off our bags earlier than we expected so did that at 11:00 am and drove across the street to park our car in the Port Parking garage for $ 15 per day. A short walk across the street of less than 10 minutes we were going up the escalator to check in. With in less than 30 minutes we were on board the ship.

Cabin: We had an outside balcony room. We were on the 7th deck and had a larger balcony than many other rooms on this level. We could see the port of Cozumel and Costa Maya from our balcony. We were centrally located making it easy to get to the center Atrium easier with it's elevators, the main dining rooms and the buffet.

Dinning: We selected My Time Dinning and ate every night at 5:45 pm with Nepatil as our headwaiter and Carlos as our assistant waiter. Both did a superior job making good suggestions and evening giving a few extras. Our food was great with good variety, different selections and interesting deserts. For breakfast we ate at the Windjammer Cafe - buffet and did find times when they were short of tables. Some times we had to hunt for a while for seats, as people seemed to sit at their table for a long period of time. We also went to the buffet for lunch as there were many good selections and many healthy options.

Excursions: Cozumel we did not do a trip here but went down town shopping. The ship docked at the International pier, which meant a taxi ride down town that was $7 for four of us. There was another dock downtown where the Norwegian ship docked. We spent about 5 hours downtown and ate lunch at Palmeras that was very nice. Someone on the street gave us a map of the city that he signed and it gave us all our beverages for free.

Costa Maya: Here we did the excursion to the Mayan ruins in Chacchoben. This was a great trip and had the opportunity to see some Mayan structures. Bus ride was one hour there and about 2 hours touring the site and then one-hour back. Tour guides were very informative about the area and the Mayan civilization. The tour left the port at 11:30 so the only lunch we had was at the site where they only had snacks, ice cream sandwiches, etc. and fresh coconut milk. So maybe take a protein bar. But the tour is worthwhile and we did get back in time to catch the cruise ship since this was a RC excursion.

Entertainment: Here again we were well pleased with all the entertainment. The shows in the Coral Theater were great. We saw several shows with great music, lighting and effects added to the show. There were several groups there for only a few tours including an accapella group and a comedian the first evening. I liked the acapella group and the music numbers best.

We also spent time listening to several other individuals and small groups playing instruments or singing and they were very entertaining.

Cabin Steward: Ours was really nice. Took care of our room and just a real pleasant person. We felt she was one of the best we have ever had.

Other activities: They had many free activities including towel folding and napkin folding. Line dancing and trivia quizzes that were very hard to do.

All in all in has to be one of the best cruises we have taken. This was our first cruise on Royal Caribbean and Jewel of the Seas and we will definitely be back on this ship and this cruise line.
