This was our first cruise on Norwegian, but it won't be our last! Right from the time we booked our cruise Norwegian stood out for their customer service and it was a sign of things to come.
The Embarkation process was quick and easy and very well coordinated. We took advantage of the valet parking at the terminal which was well worth the price. We breezed through the boarding process and we were on board within 30 minutes of our arrival. We were greeted by the very friendly crew and headed up to Market Grill for a bite to eat while we waited to get into our mini-suite. We were notified shortly after lunch that our cabin was ready and we found our luggage waiting for us when we arrived. The wine that we had brought on board was not in our room and after a call we were told to go down to the French Restaurant to pay the corkage fees and then the wine would be brought to our cabin.
We ate in Versailles that evening and really enjoyed our dinner and we never felt rushed. The More
evening show was outstanding as was all of the entertainment on the Star. From the Second City Comedy, to "Shark Bait", to the magician, acrobats, dancers and singers- it was the best I have ever seen on a cruise. Pedro the cruise director is entertainment enough on his own!
We ate at 2 up charge restaurants, Cagney's which was fantastic and La Cucina which was good but nothing special! The sushi bar was outstanding and very reasonably priced. Aqua which is the casual choice for dinner was also excellent! We visited the breakfast buffet daily which was always fresh and hot. Our choice for lunch was the barbecue daily on the pool deck, which offered different choices daily!
My only real complaint with the whole week is the poor ventilation in the casino. It was horrible at times with all of the smoke. I can honestly say that I walked out of the casino 3 or 4 times because the smoke was terrible.
But the highlight of this week for me was the genuinely friendly staff of the Norwegian Star. It started first thing in the morning when you entered the breakfast buffet and heard, "Washy, Washy, Happy, Happy!!" And throughout the day until days end we were surrounded by happy, friendly people which is a tribute to Norwegian!
In Roatan I highly recommend contacting Murphy's Roatan Tours for a great day. We went zip lining and cave tubing while in Belize which was fantastic, visited the Chochoben Ruins in Costa Maya! Cozumel is the best place for shopping and of course the mandatory stop at Senor Frogs to watch people make fools of themselves!
We chose the 9:30 disembarkation time at at exactly 9:30 we were called to disembark and by 9:50AM we were through customs, with our luggage loaded,in our car and headed home.
Our cruise was a great experience and we already put down our deposit for another Norwegian experience! Less
The ruins were amazing and the visit to the lagoon for lunch was nice. I did not like the fact that the "guide" could not be heard on the long bus ride out to the ruins! She was very soft spoken and she sat in the middle of the van so no one behind her could hear her speaking! I also think this tour was over priced!
Shopping, shopping and more shopping! The Tequileria on the main drag offers $1 beers and samples of tequila which was a welcomed relief from the $6 beers on the ship! And of course you need to stop into Senor Frogs for some good laughs!
A personal tour of Roatan with Murphy's Roatan Tours! Murphy designed a tour just for us that included the Monkey Sanctuary, Half Moon Bay and West Bay Beach. We went to Marilyn's a local restaurant and our final stop was at a wholesale souvenir and mahogany shop where we bought a beautiful handmade ice bucket for $20! The cost for our day was $80 total for the full day tour plus $8 for the monkey sanctuary! It was the best tour of the week and it was something we will never forget!
