Dream Cruise

Sail Date: February 2012
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Other

Hello, After reading the mixed reviews on Carnival and especially the Dream we went into this cruise with an open mind and were blown away. We had such a great experience and will definitely cruise with Carnival again. The staff went above and beyond especially in the dining room and staterooms.

We stayed in Orlando the night before(due primarily to New England weather) and went to Universal it was very easy to get from our hotel in Orlando to the Cruise port and Avis who we rented our car form dropped us off right at the terminal. Getting on and off the boat was quick and easy.

The boat itself is massive and took a little bit to get used to. The food was good and on par with what we were expecting. Not fine dining but delicious and if it were a restaurant off the ship a place we would go back. There was so much to eat between the buffets, pasta bar and grills that we didn't even get to try everything. There was a lot to do on the boat for our group. We never had any More trouble getting into the comedy clubs but there were lines before each shows-the late night R rated shows were hilarious. There were enough bars so that we could try a different one every night and really enjoyed the Piano Bar.

We thought we were going to be spending time in the adult only sections but there was no pool which was one of the only let downs on the boat. The water slides were fun and even on sea days the lines were not bad. We were on the cruise for the Superbowl( let down being from Boston) and they played it on the upper deck on the big screen and had free raffles that kept everyone entertained.

Our interior stateroom was small but enough space for the two of us. It was very clean and our steward always kept the wine(while it lasted) that we were allowed to bring on chilled. We stopped in Cozumel, Belize, Roatan and Costa Maya. All the ports were beautiful and had a lot to offer.

Overall this was a great and very memorable trip for all six of us and we will definitely be cruising again. Sorry if this is long winded this is my first review and I don't want to leave anything out. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Dream Interior Empress 7324

Our cabin was small but sufficient. There were 3 closets so we had enough space to hang all of our things without needing any extra coat hangers. The bathroom had shelves along the mirror so we had no storage issues there either. There were not a lot of hooks only 2 on the bathroom door and 2 in the main room but it wasn't a huge deal. Our suitcases fit fine under the bed. The only time it was loud was during debarkation since we docked at around 630 AM and the announcements pretty much never stopped. A lot of the reviews said there was a sewerage smell but we never experienced that.

Port and Shore Excursions

We did the Wallace River Cruise and Alt Un Ha Ruins Tour through carnival. It was really long but worth it. The guides were so knowledgeable about the country and everything around us. During the river cruise we saw crocodiles, manatees, dolphins, iguanas, monkeys and lots of birds. The guides always stopped to make sure we all got to see the animals. We stopped for lunch at the black orchard resort and all got the local lunch with the blackberry wine. The food and wine were both delicious. We took an air conditioned bus to the ruins and along the way the guides kept us entertained with more Belize info. The ruins were beautiful and we got to climb one of the largest temples. The site itself was not that large but there was a lot to see. The tour felt like it was broken up really well and we never felt rushed.

Beach Break

Again this rating is due to time. We left the port at 730 and were back at 1045. So we ended up at the beach for only about 45 mins. They had a beach volleyball set up so we played a game with some of the other people on the tour. The beach was very beautiful but because it was so early the sun hadn't really burned through all the clouds. No one on our tour actually went into the water other than wading. They gave us fresh chips and salsa when we got back from the rhinos.

Jeep Tour

(4)
This was a really fun tour the only reason I am not giving it a 5 is because it was short and we didn't actually get to ride on the beach like we thought we would. We did go through the jungle and since it had rained the night before it was nice and muddy. We got to go pretty fast and they stopped half way and took our pictures and gave us bottled water.

Beach Break

The beach was really pretty we didn't really spend that much time on the beach other than getting out from snorkeling. They had a pool at the beach club and lounge chairs to use. The restaurant there was amazing. Probably one of the best meals we had on the whole trip and great margaritas. The Caribe Lemonade was also delicious.

Chankanaab National Park Tour

(5)
The park and the zip line were the same thing. There was also rock climbing on each tower with different levels of difficulty and repelling down the towers. Between all the towers were different bridges some more scary than others without anything to hold on to. The guides really made this trip very fun. They were cheering us on, played some fun music and kept us laughing. Our main guides name was Beto and he was great.

Snorkeling

(5)
The water was so beautiful and clear. There was no reef but so many fish. The guides used fish food so the fish would swim all around us and you reach out and touch them. We also saw stingrays, star fish and barracudas. They supplied the snorkel gear and gave you instructions so even if you have never snorkeled before you will be all set.

Zip-lining

(5)
The zip lines were between 4 large tours not through a jungle. This was nice because we could all see each other and cheer each other on. The guides never took you off one safety line until you were connected to the next which made you feel very safe.

We did not book though Carnival at this port. I had arranged a van ride for the 6 of us through IslanderTours.com of Roatan Island. They picked us up right outside of the port and the driver Freddie was wonderful. He took us to the West Bay beach and stopped along the way to take a picture at a scenic spot. He brought us to the San Simon Beach club and it was amazing. It was 10 pp but so worth it. The beach itself was beautiful and our waiter Malik was the best. We each had a lounge chair right at the water and he would come over and bring us drinks never letting our cups get empty. The food was really good here as well. When we left our chairs the security guard would stay close by so you never had to worry about your things. Although there were a lot of people walking around selling things the security guard and beach club workers didn't let them linger long which was nice. There were bathroom and showers available to use as well as a pool.
