We were on the Silhouette for it's first Caribbean cruise on November 6, 2011 from Bayonne.(my previous review is posted on this board). This is the second time we were on the ship for the Jan.5, 2012 Caribbean cruise. We did the opposite set of islands this time.
Since we had previously driven to the port from MA, we now new where to make our turn off of Rt.440, since there are no signs coming from our side of the road. Embarkation couldn't have been any quicker.
The other difference on this cruise vs. the first cruise, was that 1st cruise we were in AQ, this cruise we decided to take a Sky suite.
The Sky suite is the total opposite of the AQ as far as space. We had so many drawers and a double closet that we couldn't even fill everything. Obviously the cabin itself is also much larger.
Since we were in a suite, we were entitled to have our choice of 2 free specialty restaurant dinners. We chose Tuscan, which was very good. Too much food. We also chose Murano. This is a very elegant restaurant, that caters to your every need. Unfortunately, we felt that you were constantly being bombarded by an assortment of wait staff to ask if everything was OK, can we
get you anything else, etc. It was overkill.
The food was fabulous, I had a whole Dover sole that was brought to the table on a platter and the waiter deboned it while you watched. My husband had the lobster which was also a show done table-side.
Since we were in a suite, we were also allowed to eat at Blu, for a $5.00pp daily cover charge. We certainly had no problem with that, since we enjoyed Blu so much in November. Unfortunately, we didn't find the food as good as the first time, and they seemed to lack the amount of staff that we had on the first trip. Our complaint about the food in both Blu and the specialty restaurants is that the food tended to be bland. I don't know if that is do to the fact that they tend to have an older crowd, so they don't want to season or salt the food.
We are also Elite with the Captains Club, so we were entitled to the free 2 hour cocktail party in the Sky Lounge each evening. We went up there for the first couple of nights, and then decided it wasn't worth the hassle for the free drinks. We went to the Ensemble Lounge each night for cocktails prior to dinner, since we were eating in either Blu or the specialty restaurants right in that area.
The other great perk is having 180 free inter-net minutes between the 2 of us. They are very nice in the I lounge to help you to set up your own computer (which I always travel with).
We enjoyed the islands on our own, since we have been to all of them numerous times.
We opted for an 8:00a.m. disembarkation so we could get on the road home early. Not a problem getting off early, much more efficient than last time. We were group 2, got on the bus and back to the warehouse/terminal to get our luggage. Go to the area where our luggage was supposed to be, and out of 3 bags we got 1. Not happy about that. There were several other people from our group 2 that also didn't get all their bags. The Celebrity person we spoke with said eventually all the bags make it to the terminal building. Well long story short, even though we got off early, it took us another hour before our other 2 bags made it/were found. There was no excuse for this either, since the bags had the proper tags and they were intact when we finally got them.
I will say that the average age of the cruisers on this trip were probably in their 60's, but not as elderly as the first time in November. And there definitely wasn't the amount of scooters, wheelchairs, and walkers that we had on the first cruise. You didn't get run over like the last time.
Aside from the luggage mishap upon disembarkation, we again thoroughly enjoyed the cruise.
