Embarkation was very smooth and we were thru registration and in our cabin promptly. We arrived at the port around 1:00 and were drinking champagne on the balcony by 1:45. Attended muster and explored the ship.
Have sailed on the Crown previously and they have done some cosmetic upgrades to the ship. All in all very clean.
Ports of the Cayman Islands and Cozumel were terrific. In Cozumel, skip the shops at the pier and spring for a cab to the Plaza area and shop off of the main street.Have been going to Cozumel for 21 years and I recommend eating at Guido's, Pancho's Backyard,Pepe's, Casa Denis and Casa Leza. Shop Los Cinco Soles, Viva Mexico, Mi Casa and the flea market ( yellow building behind clock tower). The museum is a great tour and nice breakfast.
We missed Roatan due to high winds ( according to the ship's staff it is a 50/50 gamble each sailing whether they will be able to dock there ); we were refunded our excursion deposit.
Belize... oh my... why, oh, why bother to get off the ship? The tender ride (25 minutes each way) is the highlight of this sad port. They have erected 4 "terminals" for shopping that are gated with stern recommendations not to stray beyond the confines. Absolutely a waste of time unless you have a jungle / ruin / snorkel excursion planned. I am surprised Princess still schedules this sad port on an itinerary.
2 sea days...no chairs... but we had sun on our balcony so no issue for us. Did hear several arguments between passengers slinging accusations of chair "hogging" when walking thru the pool area. One lady was blasting out the crew because " she paid for sun and it was overcast!" It takes all kinds I guess to make the world go around.
Spa services are always nice, as was the meal in the Crown Grill. Filet and lobster are delicious! Entertainment and movies were quite good too.
Horizon Buffet... where to begin? Could this be any more of a design nightmare? And the waiters... wow, folks, if you hate it that bad, could you ask to be reassigned? Passengers were cleaning off tables so they could sit down, we poured our own drinks, several made the walk to the bar for sodas and directed other passengers to the coffee/tea island. Not sure what has happened to the commitment to service on our last 2 cruises; it is a shame. Ate in the Da Vinci dining room and the same there; forever to get a menu, another leap year to get our food ordered... several tables were getting up and leaving. We stuck it out but not much to rave about here.
Our cabin was mini-suite that was kept clean and tidy. Prompt room service and a kind, personable cabin steward.
Disembarkation was a snap; 7:00 walk off and we made it thru customs and were in a cab by 7:45.
All in all a great trip. Would not sail this itinerary again due to the randomness of stopping in Roatan and the dismal port of Belize but would definitely sail the Crown again... and Princess. :)
