This was our fourth cruise on the Explorer of the Seas leaving from Cape Liberty which is about 1 1/2 hrs.by bus from our home in PA.
This was the quickest boarding we have experienced so far.Our stateroom was available when we boarded and we were having lunch in the Windjammer by 2PM.
The weather cooperated and the seas were calm for the first three days.
New Year's Eve was fun but we thought there would be a more organized celebration ie Fireworks or something special in the lounges and bars. There was a special menu, hats and a few balloons at our table. We rang in 2012 in the 19th hole lounge.
We stayed on board in Port Canaveral on New Year's Day and enjoyed the quieter ship.
We arrived in Nassau on 01/02 to find the shops were closed for a local holiday parade. We weren't planning to shop but it was a major disappointment for first time visitors to Nassau. We took a cab to Atlantis,$4/person one way,and had a great time in the casino with our friends.
Our third port,Coco Cay, was cancelled due to a high wind warning for 01/03 so we stayed in Nassau a second day.The forecast was correct. It was cold and extremely windy. The seas were high and it was pretty rocky until the wee hours on 01/04.
The last sea day was calm and sunny but too cool to be outside for any length of time.
Disembarkation was the usual chaos at the elevators getting to our assigned waiting area.We were at our bus with luggage by 8:45 with all but four passengers but waited on the bus for over an hour for them. But departure time was 10AM so we couldn't be too upset. We were all early, they were on time.
