Highs and Lows, But Overall a Great Week

Sail Date: January 2012
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan

Overall, a nice experience and an excellent value. The ship was not the most well appointed or luxurious, but for the price, it was an easy sacrifice. We had a pleasant cruise and certainly felt like we got good value for our vacation dollar. Here are some observations, some are a major some minor, but worth noting.

Positives
Itinerary - Loved it. St. Thomas, St. Maaten, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Barbados.
Inside Stateroom - surprisingly roomy and efficient, tastefully decorated
Room Steward - excellent service, our one small problem was resolved instantly
Overall service - attentive and friendly staff in every area
Lido Deli - great sandwiches, an unexpected surprise

Not so great
Dining Room Service - a tad slow, but we were with a big group
Embarkation - complicated by San Sebastian Street festival in Old San Juan, which made getting to the pier a long process. We ended up dragging our luggage the last 5 blocks. Once on the pier, things More were a breeze.
Disembarkation - luggage pick up was a free for all, disorganized and dangerous
Entertainment - disappointing, especially since it was a high point of our last Carnival cruise (Miracle)

Random Observations
Public Restrooms - curiously small, and often not functional due to tiny size
Bar Snacks - no pretzels or peanuts or anything at any bar onboard. Not a big deal, just notably missing
Pool size - for a ship with this many passengers, the pools were too few and too small. Fortunately, we had only one sea day Less

Cabin review: Carnival Victory Interior Empress

Inside cabin on deck 7 mid-ship. Great location, small but efficiently laid out. Two twins in an L-shape arrangement, made it seem roomier. Closet space was good, but needed more shelves/drawers. Extra berth was stored under one bed, limiting under-bed luggage storage.
