Okay first off I think we were on a different boat than some of the negative reviews I read before leaving...
We travelled with three children: 7, 5 and 2. Embarkation was a breeze. 20 minutes from arriving at the port until we were sitting on deck 15 having lunch. Cabins were ready at 13:30. So we had an entire day on the ship before even leaving, it was fantastic! We had two staterrooms since we are a family of five. We had 14003 and 14005. Loved loved loved this location. No one in front of us. No one to really walk by our room so it was a very quiet spot. Also on the kids center deck and only one deck below the water park and buffet. It's also on the gym deck, so this was a no brainer for us.
Cabins are really nice, so much storage we didn't even use half of it. All our suitcases fit under the beds, so did the stroller! Storage hidden everywhere even behind the back of the couch! The couch turns into a small single bed, not really for an adult but for the 7 year old it was great. Our steward Allan brought us a side railing so he couldn't roll out of bed. Yes the cabins are narrow, but I give up width for storage anyday! Bathroom situation is really not an issue. There's a curtain to pull if you want privacy. It's clean and modern and honestly we only used the rooms to sleep and freshen up! We don't go on cruises to hang out in the cabin!
Water slides were a hit all around, even for the adults! Two year old couldn't go down but she had an entire splash pad water area with her own little slide. Recess Kids area was amazing..open all the time, lots of the kids to do. They went for an hour each day and loved it.
Food was very good. To be honest we did not eat at any of the restaurants. The buffet had choice for everyone, and the menu changed daily. Plus I refuse to pay for meals when I paid for the trip...that's just us though. We did do Cirque Dinner and it was fantastic! We were right next to the stage with premium seats and the kids interacted with the performers with high fives. It was worth every penny. We also did the Nickelodeon breakfast...food was really really bad, but the show was great, especially for the two year old.
This was our eighth cruise. We've done Princess and Celebrity before. Although yes Celebrity caters to adults and the food might be better, the Epic was perfect for our family. We all had a great time, the ship has lots to offer. To those that complain about the crowds...what do you think happens when you travel with 4100 other people? Yes it's busy, but expect it. We always had deck chairs in the shade near the slides, and we got to the deck daily at around 0900. People do reserve the chairs and leave stuff there, but this happens everywhere..on every boat I've been on!
We did two excursions. The St Maarten beach excursion which was great. Organized and the food for lunch was good. Beach was beautiful. We also did the Wyndham one in Bahamas which was just okay...lunch was not good, but beach and facilities were good..
We walked off the boat with our luggage and that took all of 10 minutes! It's called easy walk off and I recommend it if you can manage your stuff yourself.
We stayed one night at the Holiday Inn near the port which was lots of fun.
All in all I give this cruise five stars..
