My husband and I just returned from the Mexican Riviera on Norwegian Star. Between us we have taken 10 cruises. This was the first time either of us has been on Norwegian and we found it disappointing. Our daily rate was higher than any of our previous cruises and overall the experience felt cut-rate (i.e., K-Mart quality at department store price).

We stayed in a minisuite which was no larger or nicer than the balcony cabin we had on Royal Caribbean.

The food in general was just OK. Some meals were pretty good and some (notably the buffet) were not. Speaking of the buffet, it is a real horror. It was where we were sent for lunch upon embarking and made a really bad first impression of the ship. It looks like a school cafeteria, very ugly. It is not well arranged; there is foot traffic running through it, amongst diners navigating between the buffet and their tables. Very chaotic and unpleasant. Once we determined to avoid it our meal experiences got better. The Versailles dining room is nice and food was mostly good, not outstanding but decent.
