Background- My best friend and I (both in mid-thirties) take a "Girl's Trip" every year. So, since the 3 day cruise fit both of our schedules we decided to give the Sky a try. I am a Platinum Member with Carnival and have been a little disenchanted with the clientele and service on my past couple of cruises and have been wanting to try a "freestyle" cruise.
Embarkation- A breeze!! We arrived by taxi at around noon and it took maybe 10 minutes before we were on the ship. Right when we got on board, we grabbed a cocktail, then made reservations at the specialty restaurants. We opted to try all 3 (more on that later). We wore our swim-suits under our clothes and so we just headed straight for the Lido deck. The ship was not crowded yet, so we had no problem finding lounge chairs right by the pool. The rest of the afternoon we lounged in the sun and watched the ship fill up!
Cabin- We had a Balcony State room on Deck 9 Aft. It was on the small side and as mentioned in other reviews, if the sofa bed is down you have to climb over the beds to get from one side of the room to the other. But, we were only in the room to sleep and/or to get ready, so it wasn't a problem for us. Our cabin steward was awesome and called us both by name every time we saw him in the hallway!
Dining- We only ate in one of the main dining rooms for breakfast. The food was good and the service was excellent. The first night we ate at Cagney's, the Steak Restaurant. The service was impeccable and the meal was the best we had on the ship! The second night we ate at Le Bistro, the French restaurant. The food was delicious, especially the escargot. But, this was the only time during our entire cruise that we had bad service. We felt like we never saw the waitress and had to ask other staff members when we needed something. The last night we ate at the Italian place....the food wasn't quite on par with the other 2 specialty restaurants, but still good, and the service was excellent. We hit the buffet a couple of times for lunch and once for breakfast....there was plenty of variety and the food was above average. We ordered the $5 pizza once while we sat a the pool bar, it was delivered to us in about 20 minutes and it was yummy!
Bars- We really enjoyed the Plantation Club, but it was closed for private parties 2 out of the 3 nights of the cruise. The sports bar was a fun place to hang-out, especially since we were there during the NFL playoffs. We hung out at the Pool Bar on the Lido deck every afternoon. Service at all of these was fantastic.
Entertainment- We hung out at Captain Cooks and the Piano Player for 2 of the 3 nights. The girl at the Piano was awesome and so funny!! We had a blast singing along and dancing! We went to the White Hot Party for about 20 minutes, it was fun...got to dance on stage for a few minutes. Word of warning, the deck was wet and crazy slippery if you have heels on!
Ports of call- We hung out on the beach of the private island, Great Stirrup Cay. It was nice....plenty of lounge chairs, lots of people snorkeling, a fun band playing. In Nassau, we splurged and bought the Atlantis Aqua Adventure...I personally didn't think it was worth the $120. Plus, not one person ever asked to see our wrist bands/day passes. But, it was fun to see Atlantis and finally check out everything I've heard about it!!
Debarkation- We carried our own luggage and were off the boat by 8:00am...made it to the airport by 8:30. We originally had flights booked at 3:15pm, because Norwegian suggest not booking a flight before noon, but we were able to catch the 10:55am flight instead!
Overall- Service was way above what I've experienced on Carnival in the past. The Specialty Restaurants were definitely worth it. I definitely became a fan of NCL and plan on taking a longer cruise with them in the near future!
