Hotel: We stayed in Old San Juan at La Terraza Hotel a beautiful boutique hotel right in an old neighborhood. We had a 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment that was perfect to share with friends. The hosts Devon and Joe provided a great start and local itinerary info for our vacation. We spent 2 nights in Old San Juan going to Latin Roots for New Year's Eve dance party, exploring all of Old Town and El Morro, went to a Flamenco show at Toro Salao featuring the music of Edgardo Montserrat. A delicious mofongo churrasco meal was shared at El Patio de Sam which had the best pina colada of our entire trip. San Juan is very colorful and picturesque.
Embarkation: We arrived within 30 minutes of embarkation begin time. Our embarkation was very smooth and we were onboard within 15-20 minutes. Water was provided and porters were right there to assist with our bags.
Ship Info: This ship is in beautiful condition. We sailed on the Navigator of the Seas prior, and enjoy the features of the Promenade and Ice show. Surprisingly every morning there were many passengers walking the track which was a great way to start the morning.
Cruise Director/Entertainment: Dennis Charles was the best cruise director we have ever had. He is so personable and has a great sense of humor. The ice show was quite spectacular and included fabulous acrobatic entertainers. There was a good variety of shows to appeal to every taste. Promenade parades and dance parties are an extra feature on this type of ship, that add to the lively atmosphere.
Dining Room: After embarkation, we went to the dining room and were disappointed with our table location. This was quickly remedied by the dining room management. Each meal with one exception was beyond our expectations. We had one night at Portofino and this was an excellent choice, our favorite menu item was the risotto (the $20 price includes gratuity) and meal is worth much more. Our wait staff Ivan and Juan Carlos were excellent and always made dinner recommendations.
Ports: This cruise only had 1 day at sea, so we were very active visiting St Lucia, Antigua, St Maarten, and St Thomas.
St Lucia - We booked a land and sea tour with Spencer Ambrose Tours and were extremely pleased with the personalized service and wide variety this 7 hour tour provided.
Antigua - Relaxing day spent at Valley Church Beach. Taxi ride for group of 4 ($16 ea RT). Beautiful water for swimming, chair rentals available $10. The Nest restaurant right on beach has good food and drinks at reasonable prices!
St Maarten - We had booked the America's Cup sailing regatta but there was no wind, so we were given a refund. Enjoyed our visit window shopping, purchasing souvenirs, rum tasting, and buying a watch. Had a burger lunch at the "Get Wet beach Bar".
St Thomas - Booked a private sailing charter with Winifred Charters. This was a phenomenal day spent sailing to St John's Honeymoon Beach, Snorkeling, eating a freshly prepared meal of chicken, corn on cob, grilled veggies and open bar including Pain Killer rum drink.
Wonderful weather, beautiful islands, excellent ship entertainment and food provided a memorable vacation that we hope to repeat in future!
