Western Caribbean aboard the Solstice

Sail Date: January 2012
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

My wife and I truly enjoyed sailing to the Western Caribbean with the Solstice. The service and attention to detail made this trip all the worthwhile. From the food, activities and great customer service all contributed to a most enjoyable time. From the time we boarded the ship we could tell the staff of the Celebrity were very organized and well trained in handling the crowds.

We stayed in Aqua Class on deck 11. Our room had easy access to the Aqua Spa facilities and the Persian Garden area as well (which we used every day). Staying with Aqua Class also gave us access to the restaurant Blu. This was our choice for evening dinner sitting between 6:00 - 7:00pm. We enjoyed the food there as it was all well cooked and the perfect temperature each serving. You must try their salmon - excellent. I also booked an evening with Silk Harvest restaurant - a specialty restaurant. This was a very filling dining experience - a little too much salt added, but all in all, very good food. More It's a mixture of several Asian styles of cooking. We also ate at the buffet most mornings before our land excursions. They were opened early and offered plenty of variety enough to satisfy even the most pickiest of people. The sushi (afternoons) was plentiful and fresh daily. They even had my favorite morning dish - Nova Lox! Yum! Very good!

Most of the activities were geared toward our senior travelers, but that didn't bother us in the least. The shows at the theater were all very entertaining and well enjoyed by all who attended. We chose this cruise ship because of the low key traveling experience. There were no loud partying crowds to deal with - this was a plus for us. If you're looking for this type of cruise then be sure to book on the Solstice - you won't be disappointed in the least. Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Solstice 1578

We stayed in Aqua Class, cabin 1578 on deck 11. Although this cabin seemed somewhat smaller than the one we stayed in on the Millennium it was sufficient enough to suit our needs. We were met with a nice chilled bottle of Champagne upon arrival to our room. A nice touch. The queen sized bed was very comfortable and relaxing. Room service was tops as our cabin was clean and neat each and every day. The ice was kept refreshed as needed and we were offered two bottles of spring water each day as well. A nice balcony and excellent view was a great addition. I believe there were about 15 hangers or so in our closet, but we also brought along a dozen extra just in case. Glad we did. Drawer space was small, but suited our needs once again. Bathroom was small but not over crowded with fixtures. Water pressure and temperature were all perfect. Great maximum shower head and jet streams included in the shower stall. Clean rugs and no odor. Although we didn't use them, there were two nice, thick cotton bathrobes and slippers included with our room. The hallways on this cruise were always quiet and clean. No noisy neighbors, too. That was a plus. To sum it up we were very happy with sailing on the Celebrity Solstice and will continue to book this cruise line in our future! Thanks, Celebrity!!

Port and Shore Excursions

We booked the Island Tour excursion thru Celebrity. A little disappointing this time around, though. Kind of boring, except for the brief time we spent at the Butterfly Farm. For me, I love all types of birds, both wild and tame. I enjoyed the interaction between the parrots there and the people who run the operation. Very nice and polite individuals for sure. Some, not all, of the parrots are tame enough for you to hold them. The tour thru the island was too short and uneventful. Unless you enjoy a very slow paced afternoon of walking and looking at different plants and trees, then skip this tour.
