Miracle Crew need a vacation

Sail Date: January 2012
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

This was our 3th Carnival cruise, so we did give them a chance. Maybe we are spoiled by Princess and Celebrity standards. The itinerary, and price was great, but the service and food were not what we had hoped for. I have to say, that we really do not like the decor on the Miracle. Since it is now in dry dock, perhaps they are remodelling it. It is such a gawdy decor. Thousands of grapes, and cherubs, naked statues and paintings everywhere.
We can see how hard cruise ship employees work, so we applaud those who do so with a smile.
When we got onboard we found a set of car keys in the elevator. We took them to the Guest Services, who hastily took them from us, with barely a smile. Not a good first impression! The cabin was great, and the cabin steward did his job, but he was not nearly as friendly as the steward we had on the Freedom last year. Our dining room waitress seemed a bit rude. Luckily her assistant more than made up for her unfriendliness. He was really More great. Our kids loved the pizza station, and visited it often. There were usually 2 men working at this station, and one of them was very friendly and happy to serve us, but the other was the most rude employee we have ever seen. We witnessed him rudely telling a lady to go sit down instead of wait for her pizza. The line up keep increasing, and I doubt she ever got her pizza.
It was too bad that all the shows were just repeats from past cruises we've been on. I guess it's tough to change it up. We did enjoy the comedians, as they were new. The Phantom shows were all well done, but all repeats.
One thing that should be improved on this ship, is the out door entertainment, especially in the evenings. We love being in the warm Caribbean breeze under the stars with no AC blowing on us like inside, but we found nothing going on out on the decks. The pools are roped off, and we only saw a band playing music on the Lido deck on one evening.
Our overall impression of the ship and the crew, was that everyone was tired, and needed a break.
We did have a wonderful vacation, with the best weather we have ever experienced on a trip.
Our prayers are with all the crew and passengers and their families from Costa Concordia. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Miracle Balcony Empress 6127

We had two cabins. 6127 balcony, and 6129 inside. Directly across the hall from each other. We worried about being so close to the front of the ship. We usually travel mid ship, but it was fine. Didn't notice more motion than any other locations. Both cabins were very spacious, with lots of room for storing our things. After unpacking, our empty suitcases fit easily under the beds. The only complaint was how long it takes for the lights to come on in the bathroom. The balcony was smaller than the extended ones below us on deck 5, but it was adequate.

Port and Shore Excursions

We stuck close to the pier in St. Kitts. We found the people here were so friendly, and the shopping was great! Check out Venetian Fine Jewellers. Wonderful staff, and reasonable negotiating. We loved this store. All the shops and restaurants here were friendly and great prices. There are men walking around with baby pet monkeys. For $10 they will allow you to pose for photos while holding the adorable monkeys. Our kids got a real kick out of these tiny monkeys with diapers on.

Booked the Land & Sea tour through Carnival. Beautiful island. Bus was comfortable, and newer. Driver was very good, and tour guide was very informative. Great tour, and got to see a lot of the island. Botanical gardens and water fall were beautiful. The catamaran portion was a lot of fun, but not really enough seats for everyone. We joined another group who were already on board when we arrived. Lunch was almost done, so the selection for lunch wasn't as good. Lots of chicken left but the salads were almost all gone. Luckily we took our own snorkel gear, as I don't think they had any to hand out. They did offer life jackets though incase anyone wanted one while they swam. The snorkelling spot wasn't the best snorkelling we have ever done, but we did see some fish.

Bernard tours was booked online, and it was great fun. The beach we spent 2 hours at was very nice, where we could parasail and sea-doo for reasonable prices. We stayed on the non-topless side of the beach, but beware of the exibitionists who like to walk along the non topless beach as well. Our kids got more than an eye full. They also stopped for a bit at the beach where the planes fly very close over your heads while landing. It was a fun experience. Shopping on this island was pretty good too.
