Everything was wonderful

Sail Date: December 2011
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan

We arrived at San Juan the night before and stayed in the Caribe Hilton, which was very nice, but we didn't have a chance to check out all the amenities - would definitely go back though.

Embarkation - We were collected from the hotel at 1pm on embarkation day along with several other couples. Embarkation was quick and easy - we were on board sipping our champagne within 30 minutes of arrival.

Cabin - We had a 2C - the cabin was actually bigger than I was expecting, cleverly laid out with lots of wardrobe and storage space. I am so glad we booked a cabin with verandah because we spent most of our time on board sitting out there.

Food/Dining -For breakfast we usually went to the buffet and found something different each day; one day we ordered room service. For lunch were were usually off the ship. We ate 3 evening meals in the MDR, 2 at the buffet and ordered room service one night. The food and service was great. I loved the sushi at the buffet. We also More visited the Cova Cafe every day for the best frozen coffees and pastries.

Service - All the crew and staff we met were friendly and helpful. Our cabin attendants were excellent; really lovely.

Entertainment - We only went to two shows - they were a bit cheesy for our taste, but they were fun and we enjoyed them. We didn't use the casino so can't really comment on that, but the folk that were playing looked to be having a good time.

Shore Excursions - we didn't book any through the ship; preferred to book independently. They were all great and there was no danger of missing the ship - the tour guides are well aware of the need to get you back in time.

Disembarkation - our time to disembark was 10:20 or thereabouts, which seemed ok initially as we didn't need to rush over breakfast, but it turned out to be a long time to wait as the pools were shut and there wasn't much we could do. It took about 20 minutes to get off the ship, then another 45 minutes to get through Customs. By the time we got to our hotel it was nearly lunch time. Next time we would want an earlier time. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

We booked independently with Antigua Paddles; 1/2 day of kayaking, snorkeling / swimming. Enjoyed it immensely and it was a great alternative to an island tour.

In the morning we took a taxi into Bridgetown to have a wander about, then we walked back to the ship to pick up our swim suits. En route we stopped at a few local craft shops and a cigar factory - this was quite interesting. There were 6 woman working on various stages of the cigars and we were invited in to stand and watch while they told us what they were doing. From there we were a 5 minute walk back to the ship. We had intended to take a taxi to the Boatyard, but instead joined a group of 8 others who were doing a 2 hour island tour followed by an hour at a beach.

We joined some other cruise critic members on a tour with Cosol Tours and had a blast. It was a great day and we loved St Lucia. I'd recommend Cosol to anyone looking for a tour of St Lucia. Make sure you take some $1 bills though - that was the price to use the loo, except at the drive in Volcano - there it was free. The tour itself was great value and included local food & drink.

We booked independently with Bernard's Tours. It was another great day, wonderful tour, great tour guide. Maho beach was a blast.

We didn't have anything booked at St Thomas and thought we'd be able to get a tour at the dock. We jumped into a pick up truck/taxi/tour bus contraption for what we thought was going to be a 2 hour tour, but the driver gave no commentary so we got off at the first beach stop. This was Secret Harbour and it was so lovely we spent most of the day here. It was quite sheltered and very quiet - at most there were 20 people at the busiest time - and so relaxing. The water was warm and crystal clear. From the hotel we rented chairs for the day and some snorkeling gear for a reasonable price. We also had a nice lunch in the beach bar. When it was time to go, the hotel receptionist called a cab to take us back to the dock. We then spent a couple of hours in the shops. A truly wonderful day.
