My boyfriend and I went on the Jewel of the Seas January 7, 2012 sailing to Cozumel and Costa Maya. This was the first cruise in several years for each of us, and we were looking forward to a great vacation. Overall, the ship was clean, and staff were very friendly, with the exception of the Head Waiter in the Tides Dining room. He was a complete imbecile! Long story short, he blamed his own error on our waitress and yelled at her in the middle of the dining room. Completely unprofessional and uncalled for, especially since everyone at our table agreed that he was the reason there was a problem in the first place!! Somehow, my boyfriend and I got caught up in the middle, and we were moved from our table to a single table - you would think that would be great, right? A little privacy, some romantic dining. Wrong ... it was a punishment for calling out the head waiter on his BS! The table next to our new assignment was literally the loudest table in the dining room - chock full overly boisterous men would stand out in a sports bar, let alone in the main dining room of a cruise ship.

The food anywhere on the ship was average and nothing to really write home about. We did not opt for the two specialty dining options, but I cannot imagine that the pasta would be less mushy than in the Windjammer, and that any of the steak in the steak house was edible - any of the beef options we had in the Tides or Windjammer was tough, full of gristle, and absolutely flavorless. Matter of fact, the food was either completely over spiced, or bland.

Our room attendant was great, and he was so friendly, and did great towel animals, and kept our room very clean. Considering we took mid day naps every day, he always had our bed remade and turned down in the evening. The only problem with the room attendants in our hall though was they seemed to always have their carts in the halls. There is barely enough room when two people pass in the halls; having the bulky carts and vacuum cleaners in the halls all day and night was just very unorganized.

Cabin Review

Large Ocean View Stateroom

We had the large ocean view cabin on deck three, all the way in the back. It was noisy during certain times overnight - some clanging and banging, and was near a crew entry way. Our door was bumped several times by carts, room service, luggage collection etc. However, we barely felt any movement at all, even when the ship sailed faster towards our home destination. Plenty of space in the closet for a 5 night cruise, but I wouldn't want to spend more time than that, or we'd have to use laundry service. They could stand to upgrade TV's to LCD's in the cabins to create more space on the counter, rather than the old tube style TV's.
