Sail Date: December 2011
Destination: Canary Islands
Embarkation: Southampton

Fantastic time. Crew and fellow holiday makers very friendly. Wonderful facilities for all family. Shows mainly very good although 1 with resident singers and dancers didn't have a theme and was very disjointed. Comedian Tommy Boyd was brilliant and also had a wonderful voice. Hypnotist Christopher Caress also very good.Ice show was amazing and well worth seeing.
Balcony cabin was very comfortable, bed was huge and again very comfortable. Tea and coffee making was supplied. Unfortunately we were right at the rear and the balcony got covered in soot, especially on sailawy. It was a very quiet position though and we had no noise from surrounding cabins or corridor.
Swimming pool was like a warm bath and the jacuzzi was even hotter. We were able to swim everyday, even leaving and returning to Southampton in Dec/Jan.
Food was varied and of good quality generally. Not impressed with menu on New Year's Eve and ate in the informal Windjammer buffet.
Drinks expensive $6.95 for More pint and cheapest glass of wine. Not worth getting drinks package unless you are heavy drinker.
Enjoyed mini golf and climbing wall. Casino had loads of slot machines and some were only 1 cent play so kept us amused for long time with little loss - did win once or twice.
Would have liked more enrichment lectures. Most of the ones I attended were just sales talks for the spa treatments.
Screening room very tiny and didn't manage to get in to see films. Less

Cabin review: Independence of the Seas Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom Deck 6 9704

Small balcony right at rear but quiet location. Balcony gets covered in soot, especially on sailaway. No noise from adjoining cabin or corridor.

Port and Shore Excursions

Hours walk from ship on uphill but well made up path until nearly reached town when path stopped making it difficult for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Dotto train from outside castle. Small market near the stop which was good. Beach right over far side of the town but no facilities such as sunbeds or toilets.

Lovely port. Very close to good shopping centre and short walk to lovely beach with good facilities - sunbeds, toilets, bars and vending machine for hot and cold drinks - cheaper than beach vendors who walk up and down frequently. Very clean.

Disappointing. Arrived New Year's day and everywhere shut. Streets were covered in broken glass and litter from night before and hadn't been cleaned up by 11.30am Buildings covered in graffitti. Shuttle bus from ship expensive fo rdistance travelled.

Enjoyed a very brief stay. Clean and interesting. Went up cable car but not enough time to look round botanical gardens.

Good for shopping but not close to beach.
