Great Time on the Star

Sail Date: January 2012
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Tampa

Great week on the STAR. This is our second cruise with NCL and had anothe rgood memorable trip
Our meet and greet had a great turnout. very impressed with the Star for the welcome with the senior officers, a small welcome spread and an invitation to the bridge.

Food: We ate in Versailes, Aqua, Ginza, La Cucina, Blue Lagoon and buffets. All good food, not gourmet but good quality, variety and fresh. For Aqua and Versailles, we waited no more than 10 minutes. They allow a small percentage of reservations, otherwise just wait. Used the room service one morning and everything came on time and was perfect to save on time before an excursion.
Service: Fantastic, everyone was friendly and service was fantastic.
Room: we had a mini-suite. Very good space for us. The sofa bed was a little hard but a request for the egg-foam solved it. Nice balcony and enjoyed sitting outside, but unfortunately loud neighbours ruined some peaceful days. Lots of storage space. More we brought a over-the-door storage bag for the washroom door and it held all our stuff and kept counter clean. Good size washroom. Lots of fluffy towels which were changed twice a day. Mini-fridge and safe in room. Recommend you bring an alarm clock (no clock in room) and a power outlet bar.
Entertainment: Saw several shows and was very impressed with the quality. Especially enjoyed the Elements. We sat at Gatsby's most nights and listened to David Pellegrine who was extremely entertaining. My younger daughter enjoyed karoke at Red Lions. My older one had so much fun with all the ship activities and I barely saw her.
Spa and Fitness: Decent fitness centre with lots of equipment. I never had to wait for cardio equipment. Plenty of space. I had the health room pass for $119. It was nice quiet respite from the busy ship, had a co-ed hot tub, lap pool and quiet areas. Steam rooms and sauna in the ladies room Did not use the spa.
Ports: Did independent excusions
Roatan: South Shore Zip line, monkey farm and iguana farm with Christopher tours. Belize: Cave tubing and Costa Maya went to Maya Chan. In Cozumel, it was a busy day with cruise boats, stayed on the boat most of the day and just went for a few hours of shopping. I preferred the silver jewellery in Costa Maya. Don't forget to bargain. I paid half or less vs original asking price. Favourite activities was ziplining and Maya Chan.

Embarkation and Disembarkation was a breeze. Only one day with problems and that was the tendering in Belize, we had to wait over an hour for our tender to be called. We missed our tour but just signed up at the port with another company.

We'll definitely do NCL again. Less
