Awesome Cruise on the Magic!

Sail Date: December 2011
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Galveston

We sailed the 12-26 cruise. The Magic is absolutely the most fantastic ship! We had a wonderful cabin on deck 1 category 6 which was a deluxe outside. I loved having the extra bath with the tub complete with heavy bathrobes. It was located conveniently to the elevators.

The food at the Northern Lights dining room was beyond wonderful and the service was impeccable. We chose the early seating since we also were traveling with our 3 grandchildren. Our waiter Ovi was exceptional. He knew us by name and did some entertaining things with the kids. I can not begin to decide whether the beef or the seafood dishes were better. We always had lunch up on the Lido deck. Yes, the lines were long but, they seemed to move fast and did not run out of food. The kids especially liked the hamburgers and hot dogs on the Lido Deck and the pizza on the Lido was pretty good. I especially loved the Tandoor section of the buffet, there was also a great deli. I had read some reviews of complaints on More the food and I can only say possibly these people shouldn't go on a cruise. There is something for everyone on the Magic from the food to the entertainment. On our cruise was a very funny comedian name Steve White. A couple of times he had family friendly shows which with kids it was great to be able to include them. The main showplace had an illusion show and it was very good.
The casino was really nice. Seemed like most people were hitting and not much complaining was going on.

The embarkation was swift and the debarkation was also fast even considering the port was closed for 3 hours due to fog. When it opened, we were zone 5 and off within 45 minutes and walking to our car.

As for the ports, we always love Cozumel and do our own taxi to the beach for the day and had a great time at Ocean Beach. We did this privately due to what we considered the high cost of Carnival Tours. In Costa Maya, it was raining and we just got off and shopped in the ship area for awhile. Progresso is a different story, we did not get off the ship. Pretty 3rd world there, so we stayed on the ship and had a great day. I still wonder why this is even a stop for the Magic.
This was our 17th cruise and we had not been on Carnival in years but are already thinking ahead to another cruise on Carnival. It was such a treat to just be able to drive to Galveston from the Dallas area, park directly across from the pier and walk to the ship and board.
Great ship and great crew...thank you Carnival! Less

It was raining so we just got off the ship and shopped the area close to the ship. Prices seem comparable to the ship's prices.

Took a private taxi to Ocean Beach for the day. For 6 of us it cost $28 each way. The beach offered lounge chairs, umbrella's, food and drink. There were also any type of water activities available for an extra price. Very relaxing day.

We had been there before and did not get off the ship. It is very dirty and pretty 3rd world in Progreso.
