We were on the ship and on the Lido deck within 15 minutes after entering the front door. The procedure with the ship and sail cards and taking of pictures is s very speedy process now.
The ship is beautiful and bright. The open deck areas are beautiful and designed for comfort. I must say we were disappointed that there was not an ADULT ONLY pool and THE SERENITY DECK location is not the greatest as it is next to the water slides, so it is quite noisy, not at all serene. The ship is kept in immaculate condition by the crew, they are always polishing chrome and cleaning glass. The crew is very friendly and is always willing to help if you have a question. The theatre is a little small for this size ship, so you have to arrive very early for seating at the shows.
Our cabin was very nice and our cabin steward, Himawan, was very friendly and always acknowledged us by our names. The room was always perfect and he put extras in making the towel animals, ie; using my sunshades. There is plenty of storage and the suitcases fit perfect under the bed and are not in the way.
We had reserved early seat dining in the Southern Lights dining room and we could not ask for any better place. Ken Byrnes, the Maitre'D is such a gentleman and the perfect entertainer. He visits the tables and talks to you and seems really interested to know if everything is satisfactory. Our wait staff, Martina, Jovan and Srdjan were wonderful and took great care to make sure everything was perfect. Service was very efficient and they seemed to know what we needed before we ask. The menu is varied and you should have no trouble finding foods that satisfy all appetites. The food was always excellent and the steaks and prime rib were cooked to perfection.
The shows in the theatre were good and the crew did an excellent job of entertaining. I must say we were disappointed that we were not able to get in the comedy club because of the crowd, we were looking forward to seeing Mutzie again.
The band on the promenade deck was a good band, but generally did not play music that appealed to different ages of people. The groups on the Conquest were much better. The entertainment in the Lobby was lacking, again, no comparison to the Conquest. The singer in the Pub and the piano player were both excellent performers.
The bartenders in the Trick Hat bar were excellent and also the ones at the back of the ship by the pool, but the bartenders at the center of the Lido deck seem to need more training as to friendliness and how to take care of the people.
One must book through Carnival to be guaranteed a refund if cancelled. You are just protecting yourself when you do this. We were extremely late returning from our excursion in Belize and if it had not been booked through the ship, we would have been left.
Not sure if this is the fault of Carnival or the Galveston Port, but some work definitely needs to be done to make this smoother. We have disembarked there before and did not encounter such chaos as we did on this trip.
We loved being on THE MAGIC for Christmas, the decorations were beautiful and everyone was really in the holiday spirit. We will not hesitate to sail on this ship again.
