This was the first cruise for the Norwegian Jade after a complete refurbishing and the interior decor and carpeting and the exterior paint was exceptionally good. The elevators were plentiful and fast. The entertainment was very good. The films on the TV were poor. Why show 'Roman Holiday' three nights in a row.
The stateroom service was excellent.
We did not visit any specialty restaurants nor did we gamble except for bingo or use the spa. The dining room service was mostly good although after waiting one and one-half hours to be served at breakfast, we opted for the morning buffet. The house-wine was Tisdale at $25/bottle which is outrageous since we can buy the same wine for $11 for three bottles.
The stateroom was a disappointment when compared to the NCL Sun. The toilet space was very cramped and there was insufficient room to reach around to wipe your behind. It's not fun having to wash after every No. 2. You had to sit sideways on the toilet and stick More
your knees into the basin area. They never should have installed that useless sliding door and used that space to allow for more room to properly cleanse yourself. All 110 volt outlets are installed incorrectly. The grounding plug should be at the bottom. When we tried to plug in a night light, the closeness of the adjacent horizontal surface would not allow it.
The pre-purchase of $250 credit for your next cruise is a good deal. We just used it as a down payment for our next cruise.
The embarkation and disembarkation was efficient but your own taxi to/from BCN or downtown Barcelona is cheaper. Also be aware that the ship's bus will only drop you off at three defined places. Less
The 'Best of Lanzarote' tour is excellent and worth it. Take the ship's tour because only buses are allowed into the park's interior. This is as close to being on the moon as possible. When the Timanfaya Park ranger pours the surface gravel into your hands from a shovel and you drop it because it's too hot you have to marvel at this planet of ours.
On Madeira the tallest cliffs in the world accentuate the breath taking views. The lush, green landscape is in sharp contrast to the barren Canary Islands. Hire a van on-line for a 4.5 hour tour including Nun's Valley and to the start of the toboggan ride, a 2 Km down hill ride in a wicker basket. Your driver will get you there ahead of the buses and pick you up at the bottom. We organized 7 people with a cost of EUR 20/pp, much cheaper than the ship's tour. This is the only island to which we would return to spend more time.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is probably the only place in the world where you can go from sea level to 12,000 feet in a few miles. Hire your own taxi by getting together with others. You will get to the cable car ahead of the tour buses. Dress warmly because it's below freezing on top of Mount Teide, Spain's highest mountain. Also the air is thin at that altitude if you have health problems.
