We went on the Carnival Glory Eastern Itinerary on February 18 through February 26, 2005. Disappointing is the word I would use to describe this cruise. 5 of us: 2 Adults and 3 teens in 2 cabins: Cat 12 and a Cat 8B Empress Deck 7. We cruise often and have 2 criteria when choosing a cruise. # 1 is the Itinerary. I do not want to spend my hard earned vacation time in Progresso, Cozumel or Belize, just not my cup of tea.
# 2 is the age of the Ship. I do not like older ships so I pay more and get the newer ones. In my opinion Carnival Ships are the most Fun but they also suffer heavy use and abuse, thus they age quickly. The Glory is a big gaudy Funship. The dEcor screams of old Carnival Ship where there is never enough glitz and shine, it will give you a headache if you look too long. Not all public spaces were ugly but most were. The staterooms were calm and tasteful though, besides the framed artwork they were exact replicas of staterooms on the Conquest or Spirit. We flew out of Manchester NH on the morning of the cruise, connected in NJ and arrived at Orlando by noon. It was very easy. We had a great driver "Rae" of Rae of Sunshine Transportation. She drove us directly to the Port while pointing out all hurricane damage, nuclear power plants, landmarks, etc. She really was well informed and fun.
We got to the port in plenty of time, tagged our bags, tipped the porter and went into the terminal. We had not received our documents in the mail, I had printed our Funship Passes off the computer. Because we had one Category 12 we all went to the Skippers Club. They had our booking number but no documents. No worries we got little stickers to wear and went aboard. Once aboard we went to the purser's desk to get our Sail and Sign Cards. I was very disappointed that they could not or would not make an extra key for the kids room. I have always been able to get an extra key in the past, but they said they no longer allow this. Too bad really, it would have made life easy, as a vacation should be.
