Christmas Cruise on Carnival Magic
This was our first booking in an inside cabin (we've previously booked in both Oceanview and Balcony). We chose one on the Lido deck as we thought it would be more convenient for the pools and the buffet. It was, but we also had to deal with being on the 10th deck and the ship movement up there. Probably will book a lower deck next time.
Biggest change for us was the new style bathroom. The shower stall is much smaller than the ones on Conquest or Ecstasy - fits snugly into a corner. If you have a large girth, it could be tight.
The decor is a bit subdued for Carnival and everything is so fresh and new - no covered pool however, which I thought was a bit risky for the Western Caribbean. We had some rain showers during our trip and just had to get under cover and wait them out.
We also tried Anytime Dining for the first time. No problem with getting a table - longest we had to wait was 15 mins and that only happened twice out of 8 nights. Tables for 2 in More Anytime Dining are not very good however. There's no privacy at all - the tables are either at the end of a table for 4, or alongside another table for 2 - maybe 12 inches between them ! I checked the set dining time areas and the table layouts there were much better. Quality of food was very good and the service was excellent. We did not use the speciality restaurants so can't comment there.
We visited Costa Maya, Belize, Roatan and Cozumel. Stayed at the port area in both Costa Maya and Belize. Went on a beach excursion in Roatan to Tabyana Beach and really enjoyed that. Beach is well set up with waiters, security staff to watch your belongings while you're in the water, showers, snack bar, lockers etc. Went off by ourselves in Cozumel.
This ship is large but the layout makes things feel less crowded. The Sports Deck and the new ropes course was always busy. We used the Serenity (adults only) area once and enjoyed that. The sun beds are geared towards couples and some have awnings. 2 hot tubs and a bar up there too.
Embarkation was a breeze. The new security set up in Galveston (5 or 6 stations instead of only 2) made this the smoothest embarkation ever for us. Almost no waiting despite this being a fully booked Christmas cruise. We did self-assist debarkation and again, absolutely no waiting, fuss or bother. In fact we were in our car and on the road by 7:45am !
Recommend the ship but I think the Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel route is better. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Magic Interior Lido 10226
Tiny shower/bathroom. Overall cabin size quite good with most useful space in the 2 twin bed set up. Deck 10 got quite a bit of movement on the choppier sea days. Good access to elevators, pools and buffet.
