We flew to San Juan on Friday 2-11. We had booked the Wyndham Condado Plaza last June through Priceline for $130/night. After reading some negative reviews, I was a bit nervous, but my fears proved groundless. We arrived at the hotel around 2:15 p.m., and were checked in and in our room by 2:30. The service there was wonderful. Bellmen were timely, chambermaids provided extra towels, coffee, and anything else we needed. We had dinner at Tony Roma's the first night which was inexpensive and very tasty. The casino was fun and good to us. Saturday we walked to Old San Juan, explored the forts and shopped. I must add that as a runner, I found San Juan a great place to run. It was safe for a female alone, and there were many other runners along both Ashford Ave and in Third Millennium Park. The pool area at the hotel was beautiful and the little adjacent beach, although public, was more than enough.
On Sunday, we left the hotel at 11:15, and arrived at the pier. We were checked in, and after a quick trip to the duty free liquor shop in the terminal, were in our cabin- Caribe 250 by 12:15. A quick note- we did buy wine, and beer and some other STUFF at the shop in the terminal- Prices are the cheapest anywhere there...Cheaper than St Thomas..We did put a couple of things in our carryon , and they were not confiscated...You can carry on wine, beer, soda, water- in plain sight-Other spirits should be put in your carryon..
Our cabin, on port side was a category bb balcony- very nice- clean, and with more than enough closet and drawer space. We spent the first afternoon on Deck 15 near Tradewinds Bar, hanging out with our traveling companions- there were 11 of us...
