From San Diego to Fort Lauderdale with the Infinity
Destination: Panama Canal & Central America
Embarkation: San Diego
Embarcation was not as smooth as in other cruises because apparently the cruise before us had some problems. We were told that it was in relation with a passagier but we do not know for sure. When we arrived at the San Diego terminal the cab had to stop about 100 mts from Port entrance. It was not easy to manage our luggage that distance. Once in the terminal we waited for a while before the ship was ready, but this was not such a long time. Once on board we were greeted with a sparkling wine and sof drinks.
We like very much the Infinity as a ship. I was afraid that since this was going to be the last cruise before dry dock, the ship might ot be in good shape or the personnel might be tired. Fortunately this was not the case. The crew was attentive and our cabin and public areas were also very fine.
In overall food was good in the different venues. We have tried the speciality restaurant and we have More particularly enjoyed the friendly service. We will especially remember Marina from Brasil because of her very friendly attitude.
We did not enjoy as much the lecturers. The Smithsonian lecturer was according to our opinion too academic. My husband and me, we both hold higher academic degrees and she reminded us of those lecturers at the university, who could not hold the public atention for too long. The comentator on the Panama Canal, although at the beguining made a good impression to us, after a couple of lectures we found his talks too selbst oriented. He displayed pictures of himself with the beauty queen, of himself with the train, of himself with the natives and so on.
On the other hand we have enjoyed as usual the Celebrity shows. The singers, dancers, orquestra and other performers made a good impression to us. I was just dissappointed with a tango coreography in which the women dancer is dragged by the hair by the male dancer. We were surprised at such a coreography which to our opinion does not reflect the tango. Tango is a sensual dance in which the male tries to conquer the women. The men might be rude to other men, who interfers in his way but not to the woman he is trying to conquer. Even though if this were the case, it is according to our opinion, not politically correct to see women being pulled by the hair around the floor. All other shows were enjoyable and we appreciate very much the quality of the performers.
The crossing through the Panama Canal was fantastic. We had a lovely weather.
At our ship there was a large group of hard of hearing passagiers who had their own interpreter. Being hard of hearing myself I was very impressed with those interpreters. Unfortunately the movies did not have subtitles, which for hard of hearing people are very important. I think they did their best at the Infinity trying to find a way of playing movies with subtitles, but apparently the DVDs they have did not allow it. May be is there a possibility to improve this?
We have enjoyed meeting people from different places, especially other Cruise Critic members. We are very thankful to crew at Celebrity Infinity who made our crossing such a lovely experience. Every time we cruise, we remain with a feeling of having met very nice crew members and in this case it was not different. We will come back for sure another time and maybe we will meet again those who contribute to our nice vacation. Thank you all! Less
