Having been on a variety of cruise ships, the JOS is a nice ship. Since this was a mini cruise between our annual cruise, it was perfect for the one port. We booked an inside cabin and RCCL upgraded us to an outside stateroom which happened to be at the end of the hallway. Great location. The only persons that passed our room were the performers coming from the Coral Theater after their performances.
The JOS didn't have so many on board activities that you felt rushed to see everything, yet there was enough for something to do pretty much throughout the day, with time to actually relax! I wasn't thrilled with the evening shows - the broadway/showtime - but did enjoy the specialty act as well as the comic and loved the 70s show in the Centrum.
We like to eat in the dining room and love the lunch salad bar. The one downside, we were placed towards the back, behind the waiter's station and next to the kitchen. We smelled a variety of smells, both food and dishrags, so we requested to be moved (handled immediately).
Another downside, as the ship was smaller it seemed we encountered smoking everywhere we tried to go (publicly). It appeared one side of the pool was smoking, yet the smokers walked through the entire area. It was hard to find a chair where you didn't have someone smoking nearby (not great for someone with asthma). Also, they (staff) never opened the solarium, which would have been nice because we had fantastic December weather !!
We had one incident with the photographers, trying to purchase some pictures. We learned this ship does a lot of "training" and the staff member was training three people on our cruise - his patience was slim and he came across as not only rude, but angry. We would have probably bought additional pictures but after he threw a pen across the table at me I decided not to.
Would I cruise on the JOS again? Maybe because I also know the staff changes periodically and I also know it is impossible to stay "happy" 24/7, despite everything....
