I have cruised many times before on various cruise lines, this was the first time i ventured out alone! I was concerned about being in the minority being English, and there were only a few English people on board. However, all nationalities were friendly, Italians, Croations, French, American, Japanese, the only race i found to be rude, in general, i'm afraid were the Germans. I don't know why but they do seem to be very rude and act in a superior manner and were the least friendly people.
The ship itself was absolutely beautiful, very modern but not brash.... lovely decor. Cabins were spacious with plenty of room for clothes, and suitcases fitted nicely under the bed. Cabin was kept spotless and unlike other cruises i have had, the staff cleaning the cabins were very discrete, making sure they never disturbed you and seemed to learn your movements, ie. leaving and returning.
Most staff on board were very friendly, some not so, but that's just down to people's personalities i think. All were very helpful. The entertainment staff could be a little annoying at times! but they were young and trying to get us old ones motivated!!! This cruise, being later on in the year, was probably mostly older people averaging about 65! I felt quite young at 56!! Very few children on baord and very few younger people, but that was ok with me. Kept things quiet!
Food was delicious, especially in the restaurants, always hot and very tasty with lovely choices. The food in the alternative dining was delicious, but i'm afraid not so hot which spoilt it slightly.
Entertainment on board was generally good. The shows in the evening, albeit only 45 minutes long, were very good and enjoyable. There was plenty dancing if you wanted it and quizzes or bingo (not my thing). The difficulty with entertainment of course was the language barriers, on other ships there were more choices, ie. comedians etc. It was quite annoying that before any entertainment, the cruise director had to say everything in every single language, which got very boring!!
Embarkation was a nightmare, the only thing i would complain about. Very very slow, and it seemed lacking in any organisation. Took about 4 hours in all!!!
The other thing i was not happy about was paying for transfers, after all the ship docked where it did they could of at least paid for transport into the centres.
To sum up... i would definitely do another MSC cruise again.... good value for money if you keep sensible!!!!
