My wife and I just returned from a cruise on the AMA's Amalegro doing the Blue Danube itinerary sailing from Budapest to Nuremberg.
This was our first river cruise and we enjoyed it thoroughly.
River cruising cannot be compared to ocean cruising (large ships).
It is more like taking a luxurious bus tour without all the packing and unpacking. Moving from place to place in a relaxing & enjoyable way.
The entire staff was very friendly and professional. Our cruise director
Ornulf Johansson was outstanding. He clearly is a person that loves his job.
Always approachable, answered every question, knowledgeable etc.
Went out of his way to make sure that everything went smoothly.
Everyone from the Hotel Manger to the bartenders were excellent.
The ship is very tastefully appointed. Dining room, main lounge and aft lounge
are all very comfortable and luxurious. Cabins are more like rooms in a boutique hotel rather than a cruise cabin. Plenty of space on the sundeck if
weather permitted. Entire ship is spotless.
We found the food generally to be very good. Spoke to many fellow passengers and did not hear any complaints. Their are enough choices to satisfy most everyone.
Sightseeing excursions were all very good and well organized. They are
broken down into groups based on passengers level of physical capabilities.
In closing I can safely say that AMA Waterways exceeded our expectations.
We enjoyed the entire experience. By the end of the cruise not only did fellow passengers feel like family but also the crew!!
We would hope to sail with AMA-waterways in the future.
