Getting on board was a snap and very efficient. Getting off even better.
The bad: Very disappointed in Carnival shoving cigar smokers to a small outside corner on the Lanai on deck 5. Despite what a past review says, no cigar smoking on the Lido deck or the Casino although puro smokers have to smell cigarettes made of chemicals, paper and trash tobacco. On the Pride, cigar smoking was in the sports bar, where it belonged. With a ship twice the size, the Dream, Carnival chose to stick us in a corner like addicts who just wanted to smoke. They do not understand what a cigar smoker wants - atmosphere, comradrie, a drink and some entertainment. Are you reading this Carnival?
Our cabin boys were outstanding. We got everything we asked for and they were so friendly. Same for the dining room waitestaff. Excellent service.
Food was top notch and the Pasta Bar where you pick your ingredients, type of sauce and pasta was wonderful. Fresh pasta made to order just for you is special indeed. And at no cost. Sushi and Tapas bar was great as was the Sandwich bar which had Panni and Rubens. The Sandwich Bar needs to add a Cubano Sandwich to make it special. Pizza was as good as any mom and pop pizzeria and way better than Papa Johns or Pizza Hut. The Leg of Lamb carving station at the buffet was great. Carnival has soooo many choices besides the run of the mill buffet and dining room fare. Explore these other options and do the lobster and prime rib nights in the dining room.
One problem was that our balcony room was on Deck NINE, just below the Lido deck where people scraped chairs on wooden floors. I contacted guest services and they investigated it and, although they could not get me another balcony, they did compensate me for my discomfort. I truly believe they care about their clients.
The entertainment was off the charts. The stage shows were crisp and fast paced. Carnival has upgraded their comedy to using Punchliners comedians. The clean shows are early and the adult shows start around 10. The ship has a comedy host who was as funny as the talent he booked for the cruise.
The Dream is the largest ship Carnival has and they really upgraded some things and left others alone. I think it is a great ship and you should have a great vacation on her.
