Super Sailing on Soltstice

Sail Date: November 2011
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Barcelona

First time sailing on Celebrity and we will definitely do it again. We flew to Barcelona a day early and stayed at the Hotel Barcelona Universal and spent a night there after the cruise before flying home. The Hotel was clean, staff was friendly and helpful, good food at the restaurant and the location was ideal. The metro station is just out the front door and the Ramblas was a 10 minute walk.
We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again the next time we are in Barcelona.

We used Autosvillar for our transfers in Barcelona. There were four of us traveling with six pieces of luggage. The cost was reasonable and we all got to travel together. The drivers were prompt, friendly and very helpful. Would highly recommend them.

Check-in for the cruise went smoothly. Celebrity seems to be very well organized at moving people. The ship was beautiful, the staff were great and the food was some of the best we have had on a cruise.

Our first stop was Cannes, France. More We tendered to the dock and walked about five minutes to town.

Our next three stops (Florence, Rome and Naples) we used RomeinLimo drivers. Can't say enough about this company. Our driver, Fabrizio, was waiting for us when we walked off the ship. He made our time in Pisa and Florence so interesting. His knowledge of Italian history was amazing, Fabrizio was so attentive and made sure we had a good Italian dining experience.

Angelo was our driver in Rome. He, too, was waiting for us when we walked off the ship. We were able to see so much more of Rome than we would have seen on a bus tour and had to do a lot less walking because he would drop us off as close to the sights as possible. We had pre-purchased tickets to the Vatican and Brayden was there to meet us when Angelo dropped us off. She took us through the Vatican museum and through an inside corridor to St. Peters. If we had not been with Brayden, we would have had to stand in line to get into the cathedral.

Angelo took us to a cafe behind the Vatican that the locals like and it was some of the best pasta I have ever had. Several of the men were making it fresh in the dining room so you could watch. Angelo was also very informative about Italian history.

Nick was our driver in Naples and again was there to meet us. We chose to do the Amalfi Coast tour. It was absolutely beautiful and Nick knew just where to stop for good pictures. He also took us to a locals restaurant that was delicious. We had extra time when we got back to Naples so he gave us a driving tour of the city.

I would highly recommend RomeinLimo if you are touring in Europe. Jany was prompt with emails and was a great company to do business with. Thanks guys!

We stopped in Dubrovnik and found it cheaper to grab a taxi than to use the Celebrity shuttle. It was only $15 (yes, they took American Dollars) to town and $15 back to the ship. Too far to walk to the old town.

Venice was next and we took the tender and spent a few hours wandering the city. We arrived in the afternoon and left the next afternoon so we didn't even get off the ship the second day.

Kotor was a great stop. Probably on of our favorite places. It was a small walled town with pedestrian only small streets. The prices were very reasonable. Just a short walk from the pier to the gate.

Celebrity Solstice had great entertainment and plenty of things to keep everyone busy. I was also impressed with the disembarkation process. It went so smoothly. Can't wait to do another Celebrity cruise. Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Solstice Deluxe Oceanveiw Stateroom Vista Deck (8) 9203

We were in a veranda cabin #9203 and it was great. The only complaint we had about the room were the pillows were too soft and small.
