The four of us (my wife and I, daughter 18 and son just turned 17) flew from Toronto to San Juan the day of departure Feb 5 (flight extremely rough!), embarked fairly swiftly and were in our rooms by 3 p.m.

Rooms -- My wife and I had a balcony room on Starboard side near the front elevators (but not too close as to hear any noise) just at the corner where the hallway jogs to the right about 5 feet. Our kids shared an inside room #7654 just a couple doors down the hall. Our balcony was slightly bigger than the ones next to us due to the aforementioned jog in the hallway. Our room was also slightly smaller that the previous one last year on the Voyager but still fine with us. The only noticeable difference really was a loveseat instead of a sofa. Yes, being on deck 7, our room was directly over the roof of the lifeboats which stuck out I'd say about 6-7 feet so you couldn't see directly down to the water but really didn't hamper seeing islands or just looking out to sea at all. And at night with the balcony door open a bit, the sound of the waves (to my wife at least) was an amazing, soothing relaxer for sleeping. Hardly ever saw the room steward but she kept things made up and tidy and we had no complaints at all. She also earned her tips I'm sure looking after our kids' room's mess each day!

Food -- Our original dining room table at a window for second seating was changed due to a request from another party to push two tables together for one big family table but no problem -- it was dark anyway by second seating and the replacement table location was central and fine with us. The only thing I'll mention about seating is that on both of our cruises we had requested a table for 6-8 in order to meet other people but for some reason each time we got a table for four. Possibly due to couples not wanting to match up with families? I don't know but that also was fine with us anyway. The food was very good, presented well and there was ample choice, either in regular or alternative dishes. Our son had his 17th birthday on the Tuesday and we had ordered a small cake and the waiters and head waiter all made a great (and embarrassing to him) fuss over him and sang happy birthday with balloons! The Windjammer was great as now they have different food stations set up so the people lines are non-existent and there seems to be a little more variety for breakfast and lunch. Seems more classy this way as well. They also had a pizza station where you could make your own personal size pizza and have the chef bake it for you. The Seaview Cafe was really good! It's up above Windjammer on top deck and has both inside and outside seating. Also has a bar! Hardly anyone there when we went which was a lot, and very good service, friendly and tasty. Onion rings, fries, Reuben sandwiches, chicken wings and fingers, burgers, hot dogs, chile, nachos, guacamole, etc, etc........great late night or anytime comfort food. Solarium Cafe had pizza as well but not at all times. See the Compass for food serving times. They did a main-pool midnight buffet on Thursday night (formal night) but we were too stuffed to eat anything. OK, my 17 year old son ate but........when don't they?
