In October 2011 we went on a 23 day Vietnam-Cambodia tour with APT. [We had previously been with APT Paris to Prague in 2010 & found it to be very good]. It was the 3rd. time we had been to Vietnam, 2nd. to Cambodia so we chose this tour because it included: Sapa and Angkor Wat.
The 7 days on the Amalotus began from My Tho on the Mekong Delta and was meant to go to Siem Reap, Cambodia. The Mekong was flooding badly so we missed Tonle Sap. We had a 4 1/2 hour bus ride to Siem Reap instead of the 1/2 hr. one. We realize the flood was beyond anyone's control. Our comments are directly to do with the Amalotus. The staff were very friendly, courteous and efficient. But! The food was very ordinary. We love Vietnamese & Cambodian food so were very disappointed. There was little or no cheese selection. What was available at lunchtime was bland and boring. The local beer was good and local wine acceptable. Our summary of the catering on the Amalotus : APT, pick up your act. Many passengers on board complained to each other. When we booked this tour in October 2010, we were appalled to hear the "voiceover" pronounce Hue as "Huey"....
APT have not been operating in Vietnam for very long, and it shows! The local guides were good with 2 irritating exceptions. Amalotus is a nice ship; good cabins; good staff. Time should improve the cuisine, hopefully. Also APT made no acknowledgement of a birthday or our anniversary, even though they asked about special occasions when we booked.
